An apparatus and method of manufacturing a multiplayer image blanket with a platinum catalyzed fluorosilicone topcoat for a variable data lithography printing system. The blanket consists of multiple layers that may be: (A) a commercial carcass having a Sulphur free rubber outer layer, a suitable primer layer for improving the inter-layer adhesion, and the platinum catalyzed fluorosilicone topcoat; or (B) seamless polyimide substrate coated with a platinum cured silicone, a primer layer, and the fluorosilicone topcoat.

The present disclosure is directed to a multilayer imaging blanket for a variable data lithography printing system, including: a multilayer base having a lower contacting surface configured to wrap around or to be mounted on a cylinder core of the variable data lithography printing system; and a platinum catalyzed fluorosilicone surface layer opposite the lower contacting surface; wherein the multilayer base is a sulfur-free carcass including: a top layer including a sulfur-free rubber substrate such as an ethylene propylene diene monomer (EPDM) rubber substrate, a bottom layer including the lower contacting surface; and a compressible layer disposed between the top layer and the bottom layer, the compressible layer being attached to a surface of the top layer opposite the platinum catalyzed fluorosilicone surface layer and a surface of the bottom layer opposite the lower contacting surface, optionally the top layer further comprises a reinforcing fabric layer, the reinforcing fabric layer attached to a surface of the compressible layer opposite the bottom layer.

The platemaking apparatus according to the present invention forms a pattern on an ink film-forming press plate that has a surface layer containing a stimulus-responsive compound whose physical property can reversibly change in response to an external stimulus. The platemaking apparatus includes: a first stimulator that applies, to a surface of the press plate, a first stimulus that changes the physical property of the surface from a first physical property to a second physical property to form the pattern, on the basis of image data; a second stimulator that applies, to the surface of the press plate, a second stimulus that changes the physical property of the surface from the second physical property to the first physical property, to erase the pattern; and a cleaning unit that removes an ink remained on the surface of the press plate.

MULTI-LAYER BLANKET

The present teachings include a transfer member, a multilayer imaging blanket and a variable data lithography system. The transfer member includes a fluorosilicone surface layer. The surface layer includes mixing a first part and a second part. The first part includes a vinyl terminated trifluoropropyl methylsiloxane, an IR absorbing filler, silica and a first solvent. The second part includes an organo platinum complex having vinyl groups, a methyl hydrosiloxanetrifluoropropyl methyl siloxane having hydrosilane groups an inhibitor and a second solvent. The molar ratio of vinyl groups to hydrosilane groups is 0.7:1.0 to about 1.3:1.0 in the mixture. The mixture of the first part and second is coated on a substrate to form the fluorosilicone surface layer.
