In some examples, an intaglio gravure printing press includes at least one gravure printing unit having at least one forme cylinder, at least one impression cylinder, at least one inking unit and/or at least one ink collecting cylinder. Additionally, at least one assigned inking unit, at least one print head, and at least one wiping device are arranged at the at least one forme cylinder. The wiping device is arranged along the direction of rotation of the forme cylinder, and downstream from the print head when the print head is arranged at the at least one forme cylinder. In addition, the wiping device is arranged along the direction of rotation of the forme cylinder, upstream from a contact region of the forme cylinder with the impression cylinder. Alternatively, in some examples, at least one print head is arranged at the at least one impression cylinder.

METHOD AND DEVICE FOR ADJUSTING CONTACT PRESSURE OF INTAGLIO PRINTER WIPING ROLLER
Provided is a method for automatically adjusting the contact pressure between an intaglio cylinder and a wiping roller that further limits the amount of defective prints generated. The method adjusts said contact pressure by changing the position of the wiping roller shaft center with respect to the intaglio cylinder shaft center using a contact pressure adjustment motor. At least the position of the wiping roller shaft center at low speed and the position of the wiping roller shaft center during printing operation for which the contact pressures have been optimized during a previous printing are stored. Before starting the current printing operation, the wiping roller is moved to the stored low speed position. Then when the current printing operation is started, the wiping roller is moved to the stored printing operation position.

It is especially described a control process for intaglio printing, in particular for printing paper securities, such as banknotes. This control process includes defining on an intaglio printing plate (80) control areas (150, 151-155; 170, 171-179) designed in such a manner as to allow in particular evaluation of effects of the printing pressure applied during printing of a substrate by means of the intaglio printing plate (80) and evaluation of effects of the ink coverage applied during inking of the intaglio printing plate (80), which control areas (150, 151-155; 170, 171-179) are engraved in a portion of the intaglio printing plate (80) in order to produce corresponding printed control zones (160, 161-165) on the substrate. The process further includes carrying out of measurements in the printed control zones allowing evaluation of the printing pressure applied during printing of the substrate as well as of the ink coverage applied during inking of the intaglio printing plate (80).
