A printing apparatus includes a head mechanism including a thermal head; a ribbon conveyance unit that defines a conveyance path of a thermal transfer ribbon and conveys the thermal transfer ribbon along the conveyance path of the thermal transfer ribbon; and a medium conveyance unit that defines a conveyance path of a transfer target medium and conveys the transfer target medium along the conveyance path of the transfer target medium. Each of the conveyance path of the thermal transfer ribbon and the conveyance path of the transfer target medium includes a transfer position and a peeling position downstream of the transfer position, the transfer position being a position where the thermal transfer ribbon overlaid on the transfer target medium is subjected to heat and pressure from the thermal head, the peeling position being a position where the thermal transfer ribbon starts to be peeled away from the transfer target medium.

An inner ribbon mounting opening is provided at a lower side of a cover member (202) that is rotatably connected with a housing (201), the cover member (202) housing a ribbon unit that holds an ink ribbon (302) held so as to be freely fed and freely taken up. An outer ribbon mounting opening (301) is further provided at an upper side. Thus, work can be performed from both directions above and below the cover member (202). As a result, work can be performed selectively using the outer ribbon mounting opening (301) or the inner ribbon mounting opening, and the workability for mounting and removing the ink ribbon can be enhanced.

A ribbon cassette includes a case, an ink ribbon, a first spool, a second spool, a rotating member, a clutch spring, and an engaging part. The ink ribbon has one end portion wound over the first spool and another end portion connected to the second spool. The rotating member is engaged with a first inner surface of the first spool. The clutch spring includes a coil like annular part attached to the rotating member, and an extension part extending from the annular part. The engaging part is positioned on a locus of rotation of the extension part. The first spool has a protrusion provided at a second inner surface of the first spool. The case-hole is in communication with an interior of the first spool, and has a portion overlapped with an entire circular region surrounded by a path of rotation of the tip end of the protrusion.
Ribbon cassette including ink ribbon, first spool, and second spool
A ribbon cassette includes a case, an ink ribbon, a first spool, a second spool, a rotating member, a clutch spring, and an engaging part. The ink ribbon has one end portion wound over the first spool and another end portion connected to the second spool. The rotating member is engaged with a first inner surface of the first spool. The clutch spring includes a coil like annular part attached to the rotating member, and an extension part extending from the annular part. A tape roll is housed inside a cassette case. A first rotation body is provided on a first direction side of the tape roll and is positioned on a second direction side of a winding center of the tape roll. A first opening is provided on the second direction side of the first rotation body. An ink ribbon roll is provided on the second direction side of the first opening. A second rotation body is provided on the first direction side and the second direction side of a winding center of the ink ribbon roll. A first regulating part is provided on a fourth direction side of a predetermined path and is positioned on the fourth direction side of a first virtual line.

A tape roll is housed inside a cassette case. A first rotation body is provided on a first direction side of the tape roll and is positioned on a second direction side of a winding center of the tape roll. A first opening is provided on the second direction side of the first rotation body. An ink ribbon roll is provided on the second direction side of the first opening. A second rotation body is provided on the first direction side and the second direction side of a winding center of the ink ribbon roll. A first regulating part is provided on a fourth direction side of a predetermined path and is positioned on the fourth direction side of a first virtual line.
