Each telescoping arm comprises two or more tubes that move relative to each other in a concentric manner between a collapsed state and an extended state to accommodate various amounts of sheet or sheet-like materials. A ring binder can be constructed using one or more of the adjustable rings.

Each binding coil is coupled to an adjacent binding coil by a connection portion extending generally parallel to an axis of the binding apparatus. At least one binding coil is directly circumferentially attached to itself, or to a connection portion.
