A writing tip assembly for dispensing a free-flowing low-viscosity ink from a writing instrument may include a micro-spring, a writing ball configured to transfer ink to a substrate, and a second ball between the writing ball and the micro-spring. The second ball is configured to transfer ink to the writing ball. A writing instrument for dispensing a free-flowing low-viscosity ink includes an ink reservoir, the writing tip assembly, and a feeder fluidically coupling the ink reservoir to the writing tip assembly.

A method for manufacturing a ball pen tip, in which a spring for biasing a ball is assembled to the ball pen tip, includes punching the ball pen tip by a punch from a rear end of the ball pen tip along a central axis direction of the ball pen tip to form a plastic flow ridge formed by plastic flow upheaving radially inward from an inner peripheral wall surface of the ball pen tip to assemble the spring to the ball pen tip by the plastic flow ridge.

A ballpoint pen is disclosed. In the ballpoint pen, an oil-based ballpoint pen ink composition has an ink viscosity with a range of 500 mPa.Math.s to 15000 mPa.Math.s inclusive at 20° C. and a shear rate of 500 sec.sup.-1. A ball has a ball diameter of 0.5 mm or less. A tip distal end portion includes a first swaged portion and a second swaged portion. The first swaged portion has an inclination angle with a range of 90 degrees to 100 degrees inclusive. The second swaged portion is provided closer to a distal end side of a ballpoint pen tip than the first swaged portion and has an inclination angle with a range of 110 degrees to 130 degrees inclusive. An angle of a bottom wall of a ball holding chamber is the same as the inclination angle of the second swaged portion.

A ballpoint pen tip comprises: a ball having a diameter of 0.5 mm or less; and a tip body, wherein the tip body has a ball holding chamber, a rear hole, an ink flow hole, and an ink flow groove opening to the ball holding chamber, and not reaching the rear hole. A ratio of an ink consumption per 100 m of handwriting to a diameter of the ball is 200 mg/mm or more and 800 mg/mm or less, and when a front end of the ink flow groove is set as a start point and a position of 0.3 mm rearward from the front end of the ink flow hole is set as an end point, a volume of a first space in the ink flow hole and the ink flow groove from the start point to the end point is 0.02 mm.sup.3 or more.

A ratio of an ink consumption per 100 m of handwriting to a diameter of the ball is 200 mg/mm or more and 800 mg/mm or less, and when a front end of the ink flow groove is set as a start point and a position of 0.3 mm rearward from the front end of the ink flow hole is set as an end point, a volume of a first space in the ink flow hole and the ink flow groove from the start point to the end point is 0.02 mm.sup.3 or more.

Provided is a ballpoint pen refill including: an ink storage tube made of a synthetic resin and storing an ink thereinside; a ball holder made of a synthetic resin and attached to a distal end of the ink storage tube; a ball pressing rod mounted inside the ball holder; and a writing ball stored in a distal end of the ball holder and having a rear end side held by the ball pressing rod, in which the ball pressing rod includes: a fixing portion fixed to the ball holder; a movable portion slidable in a front-rear direction with respect to the ball holder; a compression portion connecting the fixing portion and the movable portion; and a rearward movement restricting portion protruding from a distal end of the fixing portion and provided with a gap from a rear end of the compression portion.
