A method for manufacturing a timepiece component includes: forming a first processed surface having a predetermined pattern by irradiating a surface of a receiving plate with a femtosecond laser; and forming a second processed surface having a surface roughness smaller than that of the first processed surface by irradiating at least a part of the first processed surface with a nanosecond laser.

Method and device for in situ marking a workpiece in a thermal forming process

A method for marking a workpiece (6) uses a device, wherein the workpiece (6) is formed at least partially in a thermal master or forming process, comprises a surface (10) directed towards the workpiece (6), wherein a number of individually controllable heating elements (2) is distributed behind the surface (10) for a local heating of a workpiece surface portion. Each of the heating elements (2) comprises a solid material (11) having a surface structure and a heating structure (3), wherein the surface (10) directed towards the workpiece (6) encompassing the surface structures (40) has a uniform smooth surface allowing to dark, burn or foam the surface (7) of the workpiece (6) through heat introduction.

Laser marking of an electronic device through a cover

Markings for electronic devices are disclosed. Markings are formed through a laser-based process which transforms a colorant in a multilayer structure disposed along an interior surface of a cover. The transformed colorant defines a marking visible along an external surface of the electronic device.

METHOD FOR COLOURING A METAL AND COLOURED METAL
20220325404 · 2022-10-13 · ·

A method for colouring a part to be treated made of metal, this method including the step of implanting mono- or multi-charged ions in a surface layer of the part to be treated by directing towards this part to be treated a mono- or multi-charged ion beam produced by a source of mono- or multi-charged ions, the part to be treated changing colour under the effect of this ion implantation. A coloured metal can be obtained with the above method.

Method for manufacturing a decorative surface

A layer of lanthanum boride of stoichiometry LaB.sub.x where x is between 9 and 12 is deposited on substrate, for example a stainless steel watch dial, and subsequently treated with a laser, such that the portion(s) of the layer treated with the laser change colour according to the laser power. This produces multicoloured surfaces having high resistance to corrosion and abrasion. The layer of LaB.sub.x is deposited by PVD and by cathode sputtering, using a LaB.sub.6 target of purple-violet colour, such that the colour of the deposited layer differs from the colour of the target. The laser treatment at specific powers changes the stoichiometry of the layer in the treatment portions, such that the colour of these portions changes according to the stoichiometry obtained. At higher powers, the laser will remove the layer of LaB.sub.x. Thus the colour of the treated portions is determined by the material of the substrate.

METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR PRODUCING THREE-DIMENSIONAL DECORATION PIECE MADE OF THERMOPLASTIC SYNTHETIC RESIN
20170355148 · 2017-12-14 ·

A method and an apparatus for producing a three-dimensional decoration piece that does not damage the tacky bonding or adhesion strength of the lower layer material of the decoration piece. The method includes putting an upper layer material on a first table operating as cathode; lowering an upper mold operating as anode onto the first table, emitting a high frequency wave for dielectric heating; stopping the high frequency dielectric heating; moving a second table carrying a lower layer material having a tacky bonding property to below the upper mold; and lowering said upper mold onto the second table. In the apparatus, the second table or the lower mold is provided on the top surface thereof with recessed sections that are transversally and inwardly separated from a position where an edge of the first machining means contacts, by 0.2 mm to 1 mm; and a cushion member being arranged in the respective recessed sections.

Engineered surface for providing low friction and improved comfort on devices that contact the skin or other external tissue of the user

An apparatus structured to contact external tissue, such as skin, of a user includes an elastomeric contacting portion that is structured to directly engage the external tissue. The contacting portion has an engineered surface (64A, 64B) that includes a plurality of non-random, predesigned surface features (70, 74B, 76B, 78B) designed to reduce friction and improve user comfort. In one implementation, the pitch (P) between each immediately adjacent pair of the surface features (70, 76B) is less than or equal to a predetermined maximum pitch value, and the height (H) of each of the surface features (70, 76B) is less than or equal to a predetermined maximum height value.

METHOD OF MARKING LAMINATED JEWELRY
20170341461 · 2017-11-30 ·

A method to permanently mark an item of laminated jewelry involves creating a laminate of two metals, and upper layer typically formed of a more precious metal such as gold, platinum or palladium that do not readily oxidize laminated onto the surface of a less precious metal, such as silver, which can be oxidized to create a dark color (e.g. black). A laser is used to create characters and/or designs in the upper layer by vaporizing portions thereof to effectively remove those portions. This exposes the upper surface of the less precious metal that does become oxidized. An oxidizer, such as liquid sulfur, is then used to blacken the silver, typically a dark gray. However, if more contrast is needed by making the marked text, designs etc. darker than gray a second step can be used by applying an additional oxidizing agent to turn the dark gray to substantially black.
