The wheel body embodies a first carbon fibre composite composition including a carbon fibre layup infused with a first resin, and a fascia layer attached to at least a portion of the face portion of the outer side of the wheel body. The fascia layer embodies a second fibre composite composition including a selected fibre layup infused with a second resin.
Bicycle wheel rim
A composite rim for a bicycle wheel that has a wall of structural fibers incorporated in a thermosetting polymeric material and a plurality of spoke attachment seats. The composite material includes at least one layer of woven bi-directional fibers where some fibers are in a nominal direction substantially parallel to the circumferential direction of the rim and some fibers are substantially orthogonal to the circumferential direction of the rim.
Composite bicycle rim
A rim for a bicycle wheel includes a radially inner portion disposed along an inner circumference of the rim. The rim also includes a first sidewall and a second sidewall spaced apart from the first sidewall. The first sidewall and the second sidewall extend radially outward from the radially inner portion. The first sidewall includes a layer of a composite material. The layer of the composite material includes fabric plies of the composite material that are shaped as strips. The composite material includes a matrix of a polymer-based material and fibers of a reinforcing material. The strips include a first strip and a second strip. The second strip is adjacent to the first strip within the layer of the composite material. The second strip is nonparallel to the first strip.
Composite bicycle rim
A rim for a bicycle wheel includes a radially inner portion disposed along an inner circumference of the rim, a first sidewall, and a second sidewall spaced apart form the first sidewall. The first sidewall and the second sidewall extend radially outward from the radially inner portion. The radially inner portion includes a stack of strips of material. The stack of strips includes a plurality of strips and a hole through the plurality of strips. The plurality of strips are nonparallel to each other. The plurality of strips are positioned about the hole through the plurality of strips.
NATURAL FIBER COMPOSITE BICYCLE COMPONENT
A rim for a bicycle wheel includes a radially inner portion disposed along an inner circumference of the rim. The rim also includes a first sidewall, a second sidewall spaced apart from the first sidewall, and a radially outer tire engaging portion disposed along an outer circumference of the rim. The first sidewall, the second sidewall, the radially outer tire engaging portion, the radially inner portion, or any combination thereof includes a composite laminate. The composite laminate includes a layer of a composite material. The composite material includes a matrix of a polymer-based material and natural fibers of a reinforcing material. A volume of a respective one of the natural fibers of the layer of the composite material is greater before lamination of the composite laminate compared to the volume of the respective one natural fiber after the lamination of the composite laminate.
WHEEL RIM
A wheel rim includes a rim body, two flanges and two reinforcing structures. The rim body surrounds an axis and is made of carbon fiber composite material. The flanges protrude radially and outwardly from an outer peripheral surface of the rim body, spaced apart from each other along the axis, are made of carbon fiber composite material, and define respectively two spaces therein. The reinforcing structures are respectively received in the spaces, and each of the reinforcing structures includes a plurality of fiber bundles fixed in a respective one of the flanges. Each of the fiber bundles includes at least two strands of carbon fibers being twisted.
TRUCK WHEEL
The present invention relates to a hybrid wheel for vehicles that comprises a unitary lug structure, with a mount face and a dish section of the lug structure extending therefrom. The lug structure is usually a cast aluminum alloy. A wheel structure comprising a high strength polymer encapsulates a portion of the lug structure dish section. rim ring(s) are included in the wheel structure and are preferably made of a fiber reinforced high strength polymer.
Face to rim connection for a composite wheel
A connection (110) between a rim portion (102) and a face portion (104) of a composite wheel (100). The rim portion (102) comprises a first set of fibers (122). The face portion (104) comprises a second set of fibers (124). The connection (110) comprises a transition zone (120) in which the first set of fibers (122) and the second set of fibers (124) are arranged in a layered structure. Each layer (125A, 125B, 125C) of the layer structure includes a first section (127) including an arrangement of the first set of fibers (122), and a first connection end (128), and a second section (129) including an arrangement of the second set of fibers (124), and a second connection end (130). The first connection end (128) is arranged adjacent to or abutting the second connection end (130) forming a layer joint (132A, 132B, 132C).
