A dual wheel tyre inflation pressure control system including a pair of vehicle wheels having tyre interiors providing first and second fluid chambers. A first valve arrangement is installed remote from the wheels and is connectable to a pressurised fluid source. A second valve arrangement, suitably mounted on one of the wheels, is connected to the first valve arrangement by means of first and second fluid connections. The second valve arrangement is controllably operable to connect the first fluid connection to either fluid chamber. Controlled variation of fluid pressure in and between the fluid connections is provided by the first valve arrangement to control said second valve arrangement for operating the tyre pressure control system to connect the second fluid chamber to the first valve arrangement, and to connect the first and second fluid chambers.

The depressor member extends away from the valve and toward the tire stem. A seal member is disposed in a groove in the second adapter and provided around an outer surface of the tire stem.

The safety valve prevents deflation of the tire through the deflation valve in the case of low source pressure, such as the pressure source fails or a leak in the source pressure system lines. The assembly is designed to be quickly serviced in the field, where the serviceable parts are very inexpensive. Multiple devices can be installed in parallel with the others, with one device per tire or tire set. The assembly can be a block configured to be attached to a hub cap of a vehicle. It also enables a sensor placement on the hub cap for hub temperature sensing as well as tire pressures sensing and reporting.

A valve assembly for a tire inflation/deflation system includes a body having a control port and a tire port, and a valve member for fluidly connecting or disconnecting the control port with the tire port. In one embodiment, the valve includes a fluid-operated damper having a damper chamber for controlling a timing of the valve member. A vent valve is provided for permitting excess fluid pressure to escape from the damper chamber. In another embodiment, the valve member includes a diaphragm separating first and second fluid chambers. A vent passage and at least one resilient fluid pressure-operated valve element are provided for enabling fluid to vent from the first chamber to the second chamber. Multiple-redundant valve elements may be provided to form an isolation gap that restricts contamination of the valve assembly.
