VEHICLE BODY STRUCTURE

A vehicle body structure, comprising: a door structure having an inner door panel and a reinforcement member installed to the inner door panel, the reinforcement member extending from a forward area of the door structure to a rearward area of the door structure, the door structure being movable to and from each of a closed orientation and an open orientation when installed to a vehicle; a latch mechanism installed to the rearward area of the inner door panel, the latch mechanism being configured such that in a latching orientation the latch mechanism retains the door structure in the closed orientation and in a release orientation the door structure can move to the open orientation, the latch mechanism being positioned such that at least a section of a rearward portion of the reinforcement member is outboard and level with a portion of the latch mechanism; and a secondary reinforcement portion fixedly attached to a central area of the reinforcement member spaced apart from a forward area of the inner door panel such that in response to an impact event where force is directed to a central area of the door structure, the reinforcement member deforms and contacts the latch mechanism retaining the latch mechanism in the latching orientation.

The elongated beam also includes a cross-sectional shape having a top wall section and a bottom wall section that interconnect at a bend section of the cross-sectional shape, which includes the impact portion. The top and bottom wall sections each include an intermediate bend to define a substantially horizontal section and an angled section on opposing sides of the intermediate bend, where the intermediate bends are configured to limit inward displacement of the elongated beam from an impact force at the exterior side of the vehicle door.

The first end support portion is formed to the side rail (42) and the second end support portion (78) is formed to the outer side rail (44), where the main beam portion (72) extends across the opening (34).

The first fastener is inserted through the first opening and the second fastener extends through the second opening in the first hinge attachment location, the first and second fasteners further fastening to the first hinge thereby attaching the first hinge to the door panel.

In addition, the power generation member is sheet-shaped or film-shaped and is disposed along the surface of the vehicle door lining.
