Removing water from fuel tanks

A combination of a fuel tank assembly and a tool for opening an outlet of the fuel tank assembly. The assembly includes a tank for storing a liquid hydrocarbon; and an operator-openable valve arrangement configured to move between a closed flow condition in which flow through the valve arrangement is prevented and an open flow condition in which liquid is allowed to drain out of the tank. The tool is connectable to the valve arrangement, such that in a connected condition of the tool and the arrangement a liquid flow path exists between the interior and the exterior of the tank. The liquid flow path is at least partly defined by a conduit in the tool. A filter, in the flow path, includes a water-permeable member configured to enable water to pass through the water-permeable member and substantially prevent passage of liquid hydrocarbon.

A check valve for fuel tank comprises a joint that is fixed to a fuel tank, a passage forming part, and a valve member. The joint is connected to one end of the passage forming part, and an outlet is formed at the other end of the passage forming part. The valve member that opens and closes the outlet. The valve member comprises a valve element, a spring bearing part, a holding part continuous to at least one of the joint and the passage forming part, and a compression coil spring. The joint and the passage forming part are communicated to each other to form a fuel passage. At the end on the joint side of the passage forming part in the fuel passage, there is formed a diameter enlarged portion having an inner diameter gradually increasing from a fuel supply pipe side toward the outlet side.

Fuel tank valve assembly

There is disclosed a fuel tank valve assembly 24 for a fuel tank 4. The fuel tank valve assembly comprises a discharge valve 30 which in normal operation is closed, and which can be opened to discharge fluid from the fuel tank; and a water passageway 56 across which extends a membrane 60 which is permeable to water but impermeable to fuel. There is also disclosed a fuel tank 4 comprising a fuel tank valve assembly 24.

Venting apparatus for liquid containers, in particular for liquid containers for an aqueous urea solution

The present invention discloses a venting apparatus (10) for liquid containers, in particular for an aqueous urea solution, and comprises a housing (11) that is connectable to the liquid container (40) and that has a first opening (12) to the liquid container (40) and a second opening (13) to the surrounding environment of the liquid container. The venting apparatus further comprises an air-permeable and liquid-impermeable membrane, which is arranged between the first opening (12) and the second opening (13) in the housing (11). In addition, the venting apparatus comprises a slosh baffle, which at least partly covers the first opening (12). The venting apparatus (10) according to the invention is characterized in that the housing (11) and the slosh baffle (20) are formed in one piece.

Method and valve for venting a fuel tank

A valve including: a chamber configured to extend at least partly into a tank and to be connected via an upper venting aperture to a venting circuit; and a shut-off point defining a single maximum filling level within the tank, located away from the chamber, the shut-off point being in fluid communication with the chamber via a conduit, wherein the conduit includes a venting tube.

A fuel tank system constructed in accordance to one example of the present disclosure includes a saddle fuel tank, a control module, a first and second solenoid, and a first and second vent line. The saddle fuel tank can have a first lobe and a second lobe. The first vent line can have a first vent port located in the first lobe of the saddle fuel tank. The first solenoid is configured to open and close the first vent port. The second vent line can have a second vent port located in the second lobe of the saddle fuel tank. The second solenoid is configured to open and close the second vent port. The control module sends a signal to the first and second solenoids to close the first and second vents upon reaching a full fuel condition.

The assembly includes a seat disposed in the cavity of the valve body. The seat separates the cavity into first and second cavity portions. The seat defines an aperture to provide fluid communication between the first and second cavity portions. The assembly includes a cover device disposed between the seat and the outlet. The cover device defines at least one hole therethrough. The cover device is movable between a rest position engaging the seat to minimize fluid communication between the aperture and the hole and an actuated position spaced from the seat to increase fluid communication between the aperture and the hole when a vacuum is created in the first cavity portion.
