Speed planning using a speed planning guideline for idle speed of autonomous driving vehicles
In one embodiment, a driving environment is perceived based on sensor data obtained from a variety of sensors, including determining a current speed of an ADV. In response to a request for driving with an idle speed, a speed guideline is generated based on an idle speed curve in view of the current speed of the ADV. A speed planning operation is performed by optimizing a cost function based on the speed guideline to determine the speeds of the trajectory points at different points in time along a trajectory planned to drive the ADV. One or more control commands are then generated to control the ADV with the planned speeds along the planned trajectory, such that the ADV moves according to an intended idle speed.
Method for controlling the speed of a vehicle
A method is provided for controlling the speed of a vehicle that includes a drive train for driving the vehicle and a predetermined preferred speed set. The method includes determining whether or not a substantially constant speed of the vehicle is requested, if it is determined that a substantially constant speed is requested, determining whether the requested speed lies within or outside of the predetermined preferred speed set, and if it is determined that the requested speed lies outside of the predetermined speed set, automatically adjusting the speed of the vehicle to a vehicle speed that is within the predetermined speed set.
METHOD TO CONTROL REACTION FORCE OF AN ACCELERATOR PEDAL SYSTEM
A method is provided to control the acceleration of a motor vehicle from a current speed, wherein the motor vehicle includes an accelerator pedal system able to generate on the accelerator pedal an added reaction force when the depression of the accelerator pedal reaches a given depression level. The method includes the steps of: a) measuring the current vehicle speed; b) determining a target speed of the motor vehicle in function at least of the current vehicle speed or determining from the current vehicle speed a maximum acceleration rate; c) determining at least one threshold depression level of the accelerator pedal that corresponds to the stabilization of the vehicle speed at the target speed or that corresponds to maximum acceleration rate; d) generating an added reaction force on the accelerator pedal if the depression of the accelerator pedal reaches or is about to reach the threshold depression level; wherein at least steps a), b), and c) are automatically repeated as vehicle speed increases.

Method and apparatus for controlling cruise control
Improved control of cruise control for a vehicle, in particular an automated activation of cruise control. For this purpose, the speed of the vehicle is monitored. If the speed of the vehicle and/or a distance between the vehicle and a further vehicle in front of the vehicle is within a predetermined range for a specific period of time it is indicated to a user that cruise control can be activated. Accordingly, cruise control can be automatically activated after providing the indication to the user, or a user may respond to this indication by providing a specific activity such as a release of the acceleration pedal.
