Described are passenger seats having a seat frame and a seat bottom slidingly and pivotally attached to the seat frame that, when the passenger seats are reclined, are configured to articulate forward from an upright configuration of the passenger seat to a second seat position corresponding to a reclined configuration of the passenger seat. The seat bottom can include an aft articulating mechanism that defines a declining first path in an aft-to-forward direction to cause the aft end of the seat bottom to drop when the seat bottom articulates forward; and a forward articulating mechanism connected with the seat bottom near a forward end of the seat bottom that defines a second path shaped to cause the forward end of the seat bottom to move upward when the seat bottom articulates forward, such that the seat bottom tilts aft in response to articulating forward when the passenger seat is reclined.

A vehicle passenger seat assembly includes a passenger seat and a rail system. The passenger seat includes a seat base and a seat back connected to the seat base. The passenger seat is movable between a seated condition for accommodating a seated passenger and non-seated condition where the passenger seat is tilted forward in a front-rear direction of the vehicle about a forward end portion of the seat base. The rail system is mounted to the seat base and configured to have mounted thereto a child car seat. The rail system is configured to move the child car seat along a lateral direction of the passenger seat between at least two seating locations defined by the passenger seat. The rail system is movable independent of the passenger seat to a forward tilted position to allow for movement of the passenger seat between the seated condition and the non-seated condition.

A method can be used for automatic lateral repositioning of a child safety seat on a back seat of a motor vehicle. The child safety seat is configured to move laterally across the back seat between lateral sides of the motor vehicle. The method includes determining the lateral position of the child safety seat on the back seat of the motor vehicle, determining a current or intended parking situation of the motor vehicle, deciding which lateral side of the motor vehicle is a preferred access side for the determined parking situation, and laterally repositioning the child safety seat to a preferred position at the preferred access side of the motor vehicle.
