Far-side airbag assemblies with pillow and sail
Far-side inflatable airbag assemblies are disclosed to be installed to deploy adjacent an occupant during a far-side collision event or a far-side oblique collision event, and may retain the occupant at the occupant's vehicle occupant position to protect the occupant from collision with structures within the vehicle, as well as from collisions with other occupants of the vehicle. The far-side inflatable airbag assemblies of the present disclosure may be particularly beneficial when installed between vehicle occupant positions of the vehicle.

An airbag device configured to be disposed in front of an occupant in a vehicle includes: an inflator configured to generate gas; an airbag that is folded and housed, the airbag being configured to be inflated and deployed by the gas generated by the inflator; and a holding member including an attachment portion to which the inflator is attached, and holding the folded airbag capable of being inflated and deployed from an occupant side opposite the attachment portion. The holding member includes an inhibiting portion that covers a part of the folded airbag from the occupant side and that is configured to partially inhibit initial inflation and deployment of the airbag. The inhibiting portion has a first region and a second region where inhibiting forces that inhibit the initial inflation and deployment are different from each other.

A passenger seat airbag apparatus for a vehicle, including a housing installed in a structure inside the vehicle, an airbag cushion accommodated in a folded state inside the housing, and inflated and deployed between the structure inside the vehicle and an occupant to restrain and protect the occupant when the vehicle collides, and a flap having one end connected to a wrapper for wrapping the folded airbag cushion to guide a deployed direction of the airbag cushion while the airbag cushion is inflated and deployed. The flap is formed on both sides thereof with expansion parts for expanding a width of the flap wider than a width of an inner space of the housing. This invention further includes a structure inside the vehicle when the airbag cushion is inflated and deployed, which stably guides a deployed direction of the flap and the airbag cushion, enhancing deployment shape and performance.

The invention relates to an airbag (10) for restraining a vehicle occupant (12) in an automotive vehicle, comprising an inflatable cushion portion (20) for damping an occupant impact and two inflatable tube portions (22) laterally opposed in the mounted state of the airbag (10) which are arranged on the occupant side on the cushion portion (20), wherein the tube portions (22) are connected to each other by a slide layer (24) arranged on the occupant side on the cushion portion (20) and are laterally movable at least in portions relative to the cushion portion (20). Furthermore, the invention also relates to a method for manufacturing an airbag (10) as well as an airbag module (18) comprising said airbag (10).

An apparatus for helping to protect an occupant of a vehicle includes an airbag configured to be mounted on a vehicle steering wheel. The airbag includes an inflatable main chamber configured to cover the steering wheel, and an inflatable lateral chamber configured to cover a vehicle A-pillar. The apparatus also includes a tether actuation unit and a tether connected to the tether actuation unit and to a portion of the airbag that helps define the lateral chamber. The tether actuation unit has an unactuated condition maintaining a connection with the tether that restricts deployment of the lateral chamber. The tether actuation unit also has an actuated condition releasing its connection with the tether and causing the lateral chamber to fully deploy.
