Vehicle occupant restraint system and method for operating a vehicle occupant restraint system
The invention describes a vehicle occupant restraint system (2) comprising a control unit and at least two restraint elements (8, 10) for the protection of lower extremities (6, 6′, 7, 7′) in the area of a footwell (4) of a vehicle of a vehicle occupant seated in a particular vehicle seat of the vehicle, wherein a first restraint element (8) is configured as a knee airbag module (12), wherein a second restraint element (10) is provided for mounting into the footwell (4) of the vehicle, especially in an area of the footwell (4) of the vehicle arranged in the vehicle longitudinal direction (x) ahead of the knee airbag module (12), wherein, in a situation of restraint, the control unit can differentiate between different situations, wherein the control unit, in the situation of restraint, activates at least the first restraint element (8) and, depending on the given situation, additionally activates the second restraint element (10) and/or a partial element of the first restraint element (8) and/or a partial element of the second restraint element (10).
Active bolster vent distribution for stress and load management
An active bolster mounts at an interior trim surface of a passenger compartment in an automotive vehicle. A plastic-molded front wall deploys in a deployment direction toward a passenger in the passenger compartment. A plastic-molded bladder member is joined along an outer perimeter with the front wall by a hot weld seam to form an inflatable bladder. The bladder member includes at least one substantially circumferential pleated baffle. An inflator couples an inflation gas into the inflatable bladder in response to a crash event of the vehicle. The pleated baffle forms a plurality of at least five vent openings including at least one stress relief vent juxtaposed to a peak stress region of the hot weld seam and a plurality of tuning vents which are concentrated at a lowest restraint-force region of the inflatable bladder.
ACTIVE VEHICLE INTERIOR TRIM PANEL WITH ACCORDION FOLD
An active trim panel is for covering at least a portion of a pillar in a vehicle interior. The panel may include a body for covering the portion of the pillar. The body includes at least one accordion fold for expanding from a first position with the body closer to the pillar to a second position with the body spaced from the pillar as a result of the expansion of the accordion fold.
Crash pad for vehicles and method for manufacturing the same
The present invention relates to a crash pad for vehicles and a method for preparing the same, and more specifically, a crash pad for vehicles comprising a skin layer forming the outer surface of the crash pad provided with an air-bag module for vehicles; a foaming layer in intimate contact with the lower surface of the skin layer; and a core layer in intimate contact with the lower surface of the foaming layer to form an inner surface, wherein the skin layer has a tensile strength of about 10 to about 100 kgf/cm.sup.2 and an elongation at break of about 50 to about 600% according to JIS K6301 method when it has a layer thickness of about 0.2 mm to about 1.0 mm.
Motor vehicle armrest
A motor vehicle armrest includes an armrest body that is disposed on at least one side in a vehicle-width direction of a seat cushion so as to support of an arm of an occupant. The armrest body has an inflation portion that is inflated toward the occupant in the vehicle-width direction so as to support the occupant in the vehicle-width direction.
Active bolster
An active bolster for a vehicle is provided, wherein the bolster comprises an expansible hollow interior that is inflatable and is self-supporting in both an inflated and in an uninflated position. The bolster has an inflator module for inflating the expansible hollow interior. The bolster has an inner wall for projecting inwardly into the vehicle and away from the side of the vehicle on inflation of the expansible hollow interior. The bolster may have a relatively non-expansible component located between a first expansible chamber and a second expansible chamber. The bolster may comprise an outer wall having an attachment portion for attaching the outer wall to a portion of the side of the vehicle.
Occupant protection system including expandable curtain and/or expandable bladder
An occupant protection system for a vehicle may include an expandable curtain and/or an expandable bladder configured to be expanded from a stowed state to a deployed state. In the deployed state, the expandable curtain may include first and second sides configured to extend along respective portions of first and second interior sides of the vehicle. The expandable curtain may also include a transverse portion extending between the first and second sides, and the first and second sides, and the transverse portion of the expandable curtain may form a contiguous barrier. The expandable bladder when deployed may be supported by the expandable curtain during contact by an occupant. The occupant protection system may also include a deployment control system configured to cause the expandable curtain and/or the expandable bladder to expand to the deployed state. The occupant protection system may be used in vehicles having a carriage-style seating arrangement.
Gas-Fillable Support Means for a Motor Vehicle and Motor Vehicle Equipped Therewith
A support apparatus includes a gas-fillable support that is connectable to a gas generator. The gas-fillable support is securable to a body of a motor vehicle and has a first operating state which exists before the gas generator is activated and which has a first volume. The gas-fillable support has a second operating state which exists after the gas generator is activated and which has a second volume which is greater than the first volume. The gas-fillable support in the second operating state is contactable against a first portion which is operationally connected to the body and is contactable against a second portion which is operationally connected to the body and which is remote from the first end portion. A first mechanical strength of the gas-fillable support in the first operating state is less than a second mechanical strength of the gas-fillable support in the second operating state.
