The shock absorber includes: a base portion fixed to the attachment target; a shock absorbing portion having flexibility and attached to the base portion so as to be reversibly switchable between a housed state in which the shock absorbing portion is retracted toward the base portion and a protruding state in which the shock absorbing portion protrudes from the base portion; and a drive unit driving the shock absorbing portion to reversibly switch between the housed state and the protruding state. The drive unit, when operating the shock absorbing portion, at least switches the shock absorbing portion from the housed state to the protruding state.

The elongated structure is formed of a soft material and has a channel/slot/groove along its length that is configured to receive a portion of the rigid structure that includes the edge. The securing mechanism is configured to secure the elongated structure to the rigid structure. The securing mechanism may be integrated with the elongated structure and configured to removably secure the elongated structure to the rigid structure.

The front bow may have a lower bow shell extending at least largely across the width of the front bow in the transverse direction of the top and whose underside is fully covered by the headliner and defines the shape of the headliner with its entire surface.

A cover member depends from the roof rail trim cover and includes a plurality of parallel hinges integrally molded into the cover member. A releasable opening is disposed parallel to the plurality of parallel hinges. Activation of the side air curtain rotates the cover member about the plurality of parallel hinges to open the releasable opening to allow passage of side air curtain through an opening.

The fixed roof element is designed as a single-piece roof element having at least one impact energy absorption section and at least one receiving section locally distinct from the impact energy absorption section for receiving electrical and/or mechanical function elements, by which or in the interplay of which with other function elements a movement of the movable roof element for opening and closing of the roof opening and/or driving the roller blind can be effectuated.

The occupant protection device that protects an occupant boarding on a vehicle and includes: a base portion fixed to the vehicle; an operation portion connected to the base portion and configured to move back and forth between a first position serving as an initial position and a second position used to suppress movement of the occupant when inertial force acts on the occupant; and a control unit configured to perform movement control to move the operation portion from the first position to the second position. The operation portion is movable repeatedly from the first position to the second position through the movement control by returning to the first position after having moved from the first position to the second position. The occupant protection device includes an buffering means configured to buffer a collision impact on the occupant against the operation portion when the operation portion moves to the second position.
