Vehicular vision system that dynamically calibrates a vehicular camera

A vehicular vision system includes a camera disposed at a vehicle and operable to capture multiple frames of image data during a driving maneuver of the vehicle. A control includes an image processor that processes frames of captured image data to determine feature points in an image frame when the vehicle is operated within a first range of steering angles, and to determine motion trajectories of those feature points in subsequent image frames for the respective range of steering angles. The control determines a horizon line based on the determined motion trajectories. Responsive to determination that the determined horizon line is non-parallel to the horizontal axis of the image plane, at least one of pitch, roll or yaw of the camera is adjusted. Image data captured by the camera is processed at the control for object detection.

A vehicular vision system includes a plurality of cameras disposed at a vehicle and having respective exterior fields of view. Each camera includes an image sensor and a microcontroller having memory, and each camera is in communication with a vehicle controller. Image data captured by the image sensor of each camera is communicated to the vehicle controller. The vehicle controller communicates control data to each camera, and the communicated control data is stored in memory of each camera. With the communicated control data stored in the memory of each camera, the vehicle controller communicates a trigger signal to each camera during operation of the vehicle and vision system. Responsive to the communicated trigger signal, the microcontroller of each camera loads parameters of the control data stored in the respective memory into the respective image sensor so that the parameters of the image sensors of all of the cameras are synchronized.

A system and method for calibrating a vehicle optical sensor includes positioning the vehicle in a test station having a projection surface in view of the optical sensor, positioning targets on two hubs of the vehicle, and positioning lasers left to right that are mounted on a graduated mounting bar in front of the vehicle. The graduated mounting bar includes gradations indicative of a lateral position of the lasers on the graduated mounting bar. The lasers are configured to obtain a distance to the targets and distances along respective axes and between the lasers. The calibration is performed based on the obtained distances and once the vehicle's position in the test station is known with respect to the test station.

Implementations set forth herein relate to a camera calibration system for generating various types of calibration data by maneuvering a camera through a variety of different calibration test systems. The calibration data generated by the camera calibration system can be transmitted to the camera, which can locally store the calibration data. The calibration data can include spatial frequency response value data, which can be generated according to a spatial frequency response test that is performed by the camera calibration system. The calibration data can also include field of view values and distortion values that are generated according to a distortion test that is also performed by the camera calibration system. The camera calibration system can maneuver the camera through a variety of different calibration tests, as well as transmit any resulting calibration data to the camera for storage.

An imaging apparatus comprises a camera and a controller. The camera generates a captured image. The controller superimposes a calibration object movable by translation or rotation in the captured image. In the case where a plurality of indexes I located at positions determined with respect to a moveable body having the camera mounted therein are subjected to imaging, the controller moves the calibration object so that a first corresponding portion coincides with an image of a first index of the plurality of indexes, and performs distortion correction on an area in the captured image determined based on a position of the image of the first index and a position of an image of a second index in the captured image and a position at which the calibration object is superimposed so that the image of the second index coincides with a second corresponding portion.
