Vehicle operation detection device

A vehicle operation detection device includes sensors laid out in a vehicle along an axis in an opening-closing direction of a door of the vehicle. When the user moves a part of a body toward the sensors and a motion of moving the part of the body along the axis is detected, the sensors detect an opening-closing operation for the door. The vehicle operation detection device further includes light-emitting members laid out in the vehicle along the axis in the opening-closing direction and an operation direction indicator configured to drive the light-emitting members in sequence in a first direction in a fully-closed state of the door and drives the light-emitting members in sequence in a second direction in a fully-open state of the door.

Automotive authorization control

An authorization controller on a first side of a two-sided system communicates with an accelerometer on the second side for tracking the second side by inertial navigation. The authorization controller activates a radar transmitter and receiver installed on a car to include a plurality of spaced apart transmitting and receiving radar antennas to track the second side by radar. Coherent pulse or Doppler radar waveform tracks motion of an approaching user carrying a tag on the second side that is paired with the car on the first side. The authorization controller uses the radar to look for a pre-programmed pattern of user movement such as a “step in, wait, step out” pattern. Recognition of the programmed pattern activates an associated action from the authorization controller, such as opening or closing a tailgate or side door of the car. The same radar technology can be used with different programmed movement patterns to trigger the opening or closing of side doors, opening/closing of regular doors, deployment of a handicap ramp, deployment of side steps, or other chosen functions that can be initiated by electronic response. Reversing this functionality, the tag may be stationary in a garage and the car may approach the garage, causing operation of the garage door. Other functions inside a house are similarly controlled.

A vehicle operation detection device includes a storage unit configured to store a trained model obtained by machine learning using training data in which an image captured in advance and a body part used for a gesture of a user are associated with each other, an entry determination unit configured to determine whether, based on a position of the body part in the image obtained by inputting a newly captured image into the trained model, the body part enters a recognition area set in an imaging area of a camera, and a gesture determination unit configured to calculate a displacement vector of the body part based on images captured at a time interval after it is determined that the body part enters the recognition area, and determine, in accordance with whether a direction of the displacement vector is a direction corresponding to the gesture, whether the gesture is made.

Method for controlling a locking element of a vehicle
11518341 · 2022-12-06 · ·

A method for controlling at least one locking element of a vehicle is disclosed. A mobile identification transmitter is detected at a position in a certain access region around the vehicle. Furthermore, a user signal is output to a user carrying the mobile identification transmitter after the mobile identification transmitter has stayed at the position for a first predetermined duration. In addition, the at least one locking element is unlocked/opened after the mobile identification transmitter further stays at the position for a second predetermined duration after the user signal is output. For the targeted control of the automatic unlocking or opening of the vehicle door, the process of unlocking or opening is terminated if a termination signal from the user is detected within the second predetermined duration.

A vehicular access system includes a sensing panel at a door of a vehicle including a panel, at least one capacitive touch sensor for sensing proximity of a user at a touch sensing region of the panel, and a radar sensor sensing exterior of the vehicle. An electronic control unit (ECU) includes a data processor for processing sensor data captured by the radar sensor to detect presence of objects exterior of the vehicle. At least one indicator visually indicates status of the system. Responsive to receiving an open door command, (i) the at least one indicator illuminates and (ii) the system determines, using the sensor data, whether a detected object is within a swing path of the door. The system, responsive to determining that no object is within the swing path of the door, opens the door.

TECHNIQUES FOR FINDING AND ACCESSING VEHICLES

The disclosed embodiments generally provide visual and/or audio cues to a user to guide the user to a vehicle pickup-drop-off (PuDo) location, such as an autonomous vehicle (AV) PuDo. The user’s current location is determined based on information from the user’s mobile device. A path is determined from the user’s current location to the designated PuDo location, and instructions (e.g., turn-by-turn directions) to reach the designated PuDo are displayed on the user’s mobile device, for example, using an augmented reality (AR) interface on their mobile device that is updated in real-time. Disclosed embodiments also allow vehicles to authenticate the identity of a user before allowing entry of the user into the vehicle based on a sequence of hand gestures performed by the user that are detected by exterior sensors (e.g., camera, LiDAR) of the vehicle.
