A vehicle driver assist system includes an expert evaluation system to fuse information acquired from various data sources. The data sources can correspond to conditions associated with the vehicle as a unit as well as external elements. The expert evaluation system monitors and evaluates the information from the data sources according to a set of rules by converting each data value into a metric value, determining a weight for each metric, assigning the determined weight to the metric, and generating a weighted metric corresponding to each data value. The expert evaluation system compares each weighted metric (or a linear combination of metrics) against one or more thresholds. The results from the comparison provide an estimation of a likelihood of one or more traffic features occurring.

The present invention relates to a method for providing a route stipulation for a route system of a vehicle, comprising the following steps: providing a plurality of detected trajectories of further vehicles in a route section to be used, ascertaining a trajectory stipulation from the detected trajectories, ascertaining a deviation zone from the detected trajectories, wherein the deviation zone is determined on the basis of a deviation of at least individual detected trajectories from the trajectory stipulation, determining the route stipulation at least on the basis of the trajectory stipulation and the deviation zone.

Dynamic throttle pedal filtering of a vehicle is provided. An automated throttle filtering system may be included in the vehicle that may operate to filter throttle pedal input based on detection of a rough driving surface. The rough driving surface detection may be based on an evaluation of wheel speed signals or an indication of traction loss. The throttle pedal input may be filtered corresponding to rough driving surface magnitude values determined based on the wheel speed signals. For example, filtered torque demand values may be determined based on the rough driving surface magnitude values and included in a torque demand request communicated to the vehicle's powertrain system. The resulting torque output may modulate an undesirable oscillating torque demand that may be generated in relation to operation of the vehicle on a rough driving surface.

An apparatus and a method for controlling an engine operating point of a hybrid electric vehicle are provided to determine charging and discharging tendency based on a moving average of an engine torque and a demand torque as well as a dynamical event capture. The method includes detecting a demand torque of a driver and determining a charging and discharging tendency by calculating a moving average based on the demand torque. System efficiency is then reflected using a dynamical event capture and the charging and discharging tendency is leveled. A compensation amount of the operating point is also determined based on the leveling of the charging and discharging tendency and the operating point of the hybrid electric vehicle is adjusted based on the compensation amount of the operating point.

A transmission section transmits the congestion location information generated by the information generation section to another vehicle. The information generation section determines whether or not congestion is occurring at the current position of the vehicle based on an amount of reduction in speed from the maximum speed and the deceleration in a first time period of a specific length, and when determined that congestion is occurring, generates the congestion location information including position information containing the current position of the vehicle itself as information indicating the congestion tail position.

A method for characterizing the curvature of a road section, including: selecting, from among the points of the section, the points marking a curvature of the section; computing, for each selected point of the section contained between the second and the penultimate one, an indicator of curvature of the section at this point; identifying each bend contained in the road section, each bend including a set of successive selected points of the section; and for each bend contained in the road section, comparing the indicator of curvature of at least one of the points of the bend with a predetermined threshold. If the indicator of curvature computed for at least one of the selected points of the bend exceeds the predetermined threshold, recording, in a database, a data record including at least the set of points of the bend, and an item of data characterizing the curvature of the bend.

A method for characterizing the curvature of a road section, including: selecting, from among the points of the section, the points marking a curvature of the section; computing, for each selected point of the section contained between the second and the penultimate one, an indicator of curvature of the section at this point; identifying each bend contained in the road section, each bend including a set of successive selected points of the section; and for each bend contained in the road section, comparing the indicator of curvature of at least one of the points of the bend with a predetermined threshold. If the indicator of curvature computed for at least one of the selected points of the bend exceeds the predetermined threshold, recording, in a database, a data record including at least the set of points of the bend, and an item of data characterizing the curvature of the bend.
