Various methods and systems are provided for a braking system. In one example, a braking arrangement comprising a dead lever comprising a protrusion offset toward a live lever and a slack adjuster.

A bogie and a rail vehicle, wherein the bogie includes: a framework, a wheel pair connected to the framework, a braking hanger fixed to the framework, a hanger slider used for fixedly connecting to a vehicle wheel braking clamp, and a transmission member; the hanger slider is connected to the braking hanger, and the transmission member is connected to the hanger slider; a first end of the transmission member extends to a side surface of a vehicle wheel in the wheel pair, and the transmission member is used to drive the hanger slider to move along the lateral direction with respect to the braking hanger when the first end is subjected to a thrust applied in the lateral direction by the vehicle wheel, so that the vehicle wheel braking clamp moves to a position corresponding to the vehicle wheel.

A brake shoe includes a backing plate, a composition friction material forming a brake pad. The brake pad has first and second opposite ends and first and second opposite lateral sides. A wear indicator is formed in at least one of the ends. The wear indicator extends outwards from at least one of the first end surface, the second end surface, the first lateral side surface, and the second lateral side surface at a set vertical position with respect to the back surface.

In some embodiments, the braking system further includes a dead lever and a slack adjuster disposed proximate the first brake assembly, the slack adjuster connected to the first brake assembly and the dead lever and operable to adjust a distance along the longitudinal axis between a reference point of the first brake assembly and a pivot point of the dead lever.

A method to inspect and compensate for wear on a brake shoe of a railcar brake system includes removing the railcar brake shoe from a brake head of the railcar brake system, placing a brake inspection device between the brake head and a railcar wheel, applying brake load, measuring a gap formed between the brake head and the wheel, measuring the thickness of a stop block of the brake inspection device positioned between the brake head and the railcar wheel, determining an adjustment distance as the difference between the gap measurement and the thickness of the stop block, and adjusting an end extension of the railcar brake system in accordance to the determined adjustment distance.

A brake shoe includes a backing plate configured to interface with a brake head of a vehicle. The backing plate includes a main body and a flange attached to the main body and configured to align the brake shoe on a wheel of the vehicle. The brake shoe also includes a composition friction material disposed on the backing plate, which defines a brake surface for engaging the wheel. The brake shoe may have one or more dimensional characteristics for facilitating alignment of the brake shoe with the wheel, e.g., a ratio of a shortest horizontal distance to a shortest vertical distance of the brake shoe may be at least 1.07 and no more than 1.25, or a ratio of a length of the main body of the brake shoe to a length of the flange may be at least 1.3 and not more than 1.7.
