A leash system and methods of use are provided that includes a leash cord configured to be affixed at a first end portion to a user of a personal watercraft, a switch cord, and an anchoring cord. The switch cord has a first end portion affixed to a key for connection to a kill switch of the watercraft and a second end portion affixed to the leash cord. The anchoring cord has a first end portion configured to fixedly secure the anchoring cord to the watercraft and a second end portion affixed to the leash cord. A loop is affixed in preferred examples along the anchoring cord that is configured to slidably receive the switch cord therethrough. When the leash cord is pulled taut while the anchoring cord is fixedly secured to the watercraft, the first end portion of the switch cord is drawn toward the loop to remove the key from the kill switch.

When a force is exerted upon a manual release sufficient to overcome the biasing force of biasing member, the first end of the locking pin is withdrawn from the aperture of the male member and the male member is released. This quick release leash was developed as a safety device for water sports to quickly release a person from their board, but has wider application.

A surfboard leash apparatus is disclosed. The surf leash apparatus includes a cuff for attaching to a limb of a surfer, an attachment mechanism for attaching to a surfboard, and a leash cord connected between the cuff and the attachment mechanism. The leash cord includes an elastic fiber rope core having a predetermined amount of stretch, and an extruded thermoplastic urethane cord surrounding the elastic fiber rope core. The extruded thermoplastic urethane cord has an elasticity corresponding to the predetermined amount of stretch of the elastic fiber rope.

A leash cuff includes a cuff body and a leash attachment fitting. A suspension assembly connects the leash attachment fitting to the cuff body. The suspension assembly is movable between an extended position and a retracted position in response to forces exerted upon the leash attachment fitting. The suspension assembly prevents forces exerted upon the leash attachment fitting from deforming the cuff body, which can cause discomfort to the user or lead to the user becoming entangled with the leash.
