Outboard motor cowling with air intake system that provides water separation

A cowling for an outboard motor extends from port side to starboard side in a lateral direction. The cowling includes port and starboard inlets that direct flow of intake air into the cowling and face outwardly in the lateral direction. The cowling further comprises port and starboard duct systems. Each duct system is configured to receive and convey intake air from one of the port and starboard intake ports to an intake conduit for the outboard motor. Each duct system defines a first separation region that receives and conveys the intake air laterally outward to separate a first portion of water from the intake air. Each duct system further defines a second separation region that receives and conveys the intake air from the first separation region laterally inward to separate a second portion of water from the intake air.

Air intake plenum for attenuating sound from a marine engine

An intake plenum is for a marine engine, the marine engine having first and second throttle devices for controlling flow of intake air to the marine engine. The intake plenum has an airbox providing an expansion volume, first and second inlets that convey the intake air in parallel to the expansion volume, first and second outlets that convey the intake air in parallel from the expansion volume to the first and second throttle devices, and first and second Helmholtz-style attenuator devices located at the first and second outlets, respectively. Together the first and second inlets, expansion volume, and first and second Helmholtz-style attenuator devices are configured to attenuate different frequencies of sound emanating from the marine engine via the first and second outlets.

An outboard motor includes an outboard motor body, a steering shaft, a steering cylinder including a piston rod extending in a right-left direction of the outboard motor body, a piston fixed to the piston rod, and a cylinder body including an oil chamber and the piston therein, and an oil passage inside the piston rod and connected to the oil chamber. The steering cylinder is operable to rotate the steering shaft and the outboard motor body in the right-left direction by adjusting an amount of oil in the oil chamber and moving the cylinder body in the right-left direction.

Combustion air intake ports are provided on left and right side faces of an upper part of an engine cover. An outer louver is disposed to confront the combustion air intake port, and an inner louver is disposed inward of the outer louver at a predetermined interval to face the outer louver. The combustion air received from the combustion air intake port passes through the outer louver and the inner louver and is guided to the engine unit from the guide hole. In this case, a splash of water is dispersed in the outer louver, and a large-sized water droplet falls down due to its self-weight before the combustion air reaches the inner louver, so that a small-sized water droplet can be collected and removed using inertial impaction at the inner louver. Therefore, it is possible to effectively separate water.

A draining arrangement of a propulsion unit of a marine vessel. The propulsion unit includes a shell structure. The shell structure limiting at least one bottom section configured to receive liquids. The draining arrangement including a pneumatically operated drainage arrangement including an intermediate tank within the shell structure, a pressurizing arrangement functionally connected to the intermediate tank and configured to selectively provide a vacuum in the intermediate tank or an excess pressure in the intermediate tank, a first liquid line that is provided between the intermediate tank and said at least one bottom section, and a second liquid to line that is provided between the intermediate tank and a collector arrangement within the hull of the marine vessel.

Marine Propulsion Unit

A marine propulsion unit is described. The marine propulsion unit allows for shallow, obstructed, or otherwise impeded operation of a vessel through a novel marine propulsion transfer unit that is, or can be, mechanically coupled to an outboard motor or other similar marine motor. A mount for raising and lowering the marine propulsion unit in a generally vertical direction allows for adjustment of operating depth of the marine propulsion unit to accommodate a wide range of operating conditions from shallow and obstructed water to traditional deep water operation.

Boat motor flushing system

A flushing system for boat motors that allows for single-handed manipulation to remotely position flushing ears onto the intake vents of an outboard boat motor. A water passage tube provides a source of fresh water when flushing or performing maintenance on the motor of a boat stored on a lift. The flushing ears are positioned on the intake valves and are adjusted to form a seal by a gripping handle. A locking device prevents movement of the ears while flushing the motor and can be released to remove the ears once the flushing is complete.

The covering hood is provided with airflow inlet and outlet openings in its interior, and a fan driven by the internal combustion engine influences airflows in the covering hood. An air-guiding system includes channeling devices for partial air flows. First partial air flows are fed as intake air to an engine intake system, and second partial air flows act, with the aid of the fan, on surfaces of the internal combustion engine and the auxiliary units heated by operation of the internal combustion engine. The heated airflows are conveyed by the fan and a third channeling device as exhaust air via an outlet opening in the covering hood outside of the covering hood or into the atmosphere.

Fan for an Air-Guiding System of an Outboard Motor

A fan is suitable for an air-guiding system of an outboard motor including an internal combustion engine and a covering hood bounding an engine interior space. The engine drives the fan, which is connected to an upright shaft journal projecting beyond an upper side of a housing of the engine. The covering hood has air flow openings, and the fan influences the air flows in the covering hood interior space. A flywheel, fixedly attached to the upright shaft journal, carries a fan wheel of the fan. The fan wheel is set in place from above, and the flywheel carries the fan wheel for conjoint rotation. Airflows enter the interior space via an inlet opening and a first conducting device, and the airflows, under the action of the fan, act upon at least parts of surfaces of the internal combustion engine and the auxiliary units to cool the internal combustion engine.
