Top-down serviceable outboard motors
An outboard motor has a top cowl and a service lid on the top cowl is movable into and between a closed position enclosing the powerhead compartment and an open position providing manual access to the powerhead compartment from above the outboard motor. An engine is in the powerhead compartment, wherein a peripheral gap is defined between the top cowl and the engine. A serviceable engine oil device is in the peripheral gap and is manually accessible from above the outboard motor when the service lid is in the open position. A serviceable transmission fluid device is in the peripheral gap and is manually accessible from above the outboard motor when the service lid is in the open position. A serviceable gearcase fluid device is in the peripheral gap and is manually accessible from above the outboard motor when the service lid is in the open position.
Outboard motor
An outboard motor is provided with an upper separator disposed on the lower side of an oil case for storing a lubricating oil of an engine, and an extension case which is separably connected on the lower side of the upper separator. The upper separator has a central exhaust passage through which exhaust gas flows, and a cooling water flow part through which cooling water flows on the outside of the central exhaust passage, the central exhaust passage and the cooling water flow part forming an integrated structure. The exhaust gas and the cooling water are caused to mix in the extension case.
Outboard motor
An outboard motor is provided with an upper separator disposed on the lower side of an oil case for storing a lubricating oil of an engine, and an extension case which is separably connected on the lower side of the upper separator. The upper separator has a central exhaust passage through which exhaust gas flows, and a cooling water flow part through which cooling water flows on the outside of the central exhaust passage, the central exhaust passage and the cooling water flow part forming an integrated structure. The exhaust gas and the cooling water are caused to mix in the extension case.
COOLING DEVICE FOR SHIP PROPULSION MACHINE
A cooling device for a ship propulsion machine includes a drain passage and a collector. The collector includes a collector main body, a case, an upper connection pipe, and a lower connection pipe having flexibility. A first bent portion is provided between an upper end portion and a lower end portion of the lower connection pipe. A second bent portion is provided between the first bent portion and the lower end portion of the lower connection pipe. The lower connection pipe extends downward from the upper end portion thereof along an axis of the case, bends at the first bent portion, extends downward while being inclined with respect to the axis so as to be separated from the axis, bends at the second bent portion, and extends downward while being inclined with respect to the axis so as to be close to the axis.
COOLING DEVICE FOR SHIP PROPULSION MACHINE
A cooling device for a ship propulsion machine includes a drain passage and a collector. The collector includes a collector main body, a case, an upper connection pipe, and a lower connection pipe having flexibility. A first bent portion is provided between an upper end portion and a lower end portion of the lower connection pipe. A second bent portion is provided between the first bent portion and the lower end portion of the lower connection pipe. The lower connection pipe extends downward from the upper end portion thereof along an axis of the case, bends at the first bent portion, extends downward while being inclined with respect to the axis so as to be separated from the axis, bends at the second bent portion, and extends downward while being inclined with respect to the axis so as to be close to the axis.
COOLING DEVICE FOR SHIP PROPULSION MACHINE
A cooling device includes a drain passage, a collection passage and a bypass passage each connecting an upstream portion and a downstream portion of the drain passage, a branched portion branched into the collection passage and the bypass passage, and a confluence portion joined the collection passage and the bypass passage. A difference between flowing directions from the upstream portion into the branched portion and from the branched portion into the collection passage is smaller than a difference between flowing directions from the upstream portion into the branched portion and from the branched portion into the bypass passage. A difference between flowing directions from the bypass passage into the confluence portion and from the confluence portion into the downstream portion is smaller than a difference between flowing directions from the collection passage into the confluence portion and from the confluence portion into the downstream portion.

A cooling device includes a drain passage, a collection passage and a bypass passage each connecting an upstream portion and a downstream portion of the drain passage, a branched portion branched into the collection passage and the bypass passage, and a confluence portion joined the collection passage and the bypass passage. A difference between flowing directions from the upstream portion into the branched portion and from the branched portion into the collection passage is smaller than a difference between flowing directions from the upstream portion into the branched portion and from the branched portion into the bypass passage. A difference between flowing directions from the bypass passage into the confluence portion and from the confluence portion into the downstream portion is smaller than a difference between flowing directions from the collection passage into the confluence portion and from the confluence portion into the downstream portion.
OUTBOARD MOTOR AND MARINE VESSEL
An outboard motor includes a steering mechanism including a pinion located in a central portion of an outboard motor body in a right-left direction and operable to rotate together with the outboard motor body, and a rack operable to linearly move to rotate the pinion, and extending along a forward-rearward direction of the outboard motor body.
Outboard Motor Cooling Water Induction System
An outboard motor cooling induction system. A pickup assembly is attached to a boat's transom proximate the keel. An uptake hose from this pickup assembly carries cooling intake water to one or more inlets on the outboard motor's lower unit. An intake plane is provided on the pickup assembly. This intake plane is preferably positioned so that the intake flow is optimized.
