Apparatus and method for fluid manipulation
An intentional fluid manipulation apparatus (IFMA) assembly with a first thrust apparatus that imparts a first induced velocity to a local free stream flow during a nominal operation requirement. The first thrust apparatus creates a streamtube. A second thrust apparatus is located in a downstream portion of the streamtube. The second thrust apparatus imparts a second induced velocity to the local free stream flow. The second induced velocity at the location of the second thrust apparatus has a component in a direction opposite to the direction of the first induced velocity at the location of the second thrust apparatus.

A watercraft comprises a motor, an inertial mass, and a fin. The motor oscillates the inertial mass about an axis, producing a torque reaction on and oscillation of the motor. Oscillation of the motor is communicated to the fin, producing thrust. The system can be operated in reverse, to generate electric power when the system is in a flowing stream of thrust fluid.

An intentional fluid manipulation apparatus (IFMA) assembly that includes an upstream intentional momentum shedding apparatus (IMSA) configured to impart a first induced velocity to a local free stream flow during a nominal operation requirement. The upstream IMSA creates a streamtube. The IFMA includes a downstream IMSA, with some or all of the downstream IMSA being located in a downstream portion of the streamtube. The downstream IMSA imparts a second induced velocity to the local free stream flow within the streamtube. The second induced velocity at the location of the downstream IMSA has a component in a direction opposite to the direction of the first induced velocity at the location of the downstream IMSA.

A submersible vessel comprising: an elongated hull; at least one propeller mounted on a forward end of said hull and adapted to move said hull through water; said at least one propeller being of a size and configuration such that when it is rotated at an appropriate speed, it generates supercavitated water flowing from said at least one propeller and thence along an outer surface of said hull so as to diminish friction on the outer surface of said hull and facilitate high underwater speeds.
