Top-down serviceable outboard motors

An outboard motor has a top cowl and a service lid on the top cowl is movable into and between a closed position enclosing the powerhead compartment and an open position providing manual access to the powerhead compartment from above the outboard motor. An engine is in the powerhead compartment, wherein a peripheral gap is defined between the top cowl and the engine. A serviceable engine oil device is in the peripheral gap and is manually accessible from above the outboard motor when the service lid is in the open position. A serviceable transmission fluid device is in the peripheral gap and is manually accessible from above the outboard motor when the service lid is in the open position. A serviceable gearcase fluid device is in the peripheral gap and is manually accessible from above the outboard motor when the service lid is in the open position.

Outboard motor stabilizer

An outboard motor stabilizer of unitary construction has a cylindrical body and an axially oriented cylindrical orifice with an opening at the bottom end of the body. The orifice has a diameter sized to fit onto a tilt rod of an outboard motor and is of a length that is longer than the tilt rod of the outboard motor.

Jet drive marine engine maintenance tool
11628551 · 2023-04-18 · ·

A multipurpose maintenance tool for a mechanical assembly. The tool includes a central body and an elongated shank extending in a longitudinal direction from the central body to a lever end. A foreign object removing element has a foreign body engaging surface. The element extends from the central body generally opposite the shank. A fastener engaging formation is formed on the shank, the removing element, and/or the central body. The formation is sized and shaped for engaging a fastener on the assembly to selectively tighten and loosen the fastener. A lateral extension extends from the central body to span an opening in the assembly and engage opposite margins adjacent the opening. As the shank is pivoted about the extension, the removal surface pivots about the lateral extension in a direction corresponding to the angular direction of the shank to dislodge foreign objects from the opening in the assembly.

LUBRICATING TOOL FOR BOAT STEERING CABLE
20230159147 · 2023-05-25 ·

Various examples of a tool for lubricating a boat steering cable are described, along with examples of using the tool. In one example, a tool for lubricating a boat steering cable includes a lubricator barrel and a threaded lubricator pin. The lubricator barrel includes an outer cylindrical surface, a first end surface, and a second end surface. The lubricator barrel also includes a central barrel cavity extending from the first end surface, along a longitudinal centerline of the lubricator barrel, and a pin cavity extending from the outer cylindrical surface to the central barrel cavity. In some cases, the lubricator barrel also includes a first o-ring seat, a second o-ring seat, or both. The first o-ring seat is positioned at one end of the central barrel cavity and the second o-ring seat is positioned at the outer cylindrical surface of the pin cavity.

OUTBOARD MOTORS HAVING SIDE AND REAR LAYDOWN CAPABILITY

An outboard motor has a cowling, a gearcase, a midsection located axially between the cowling and the gearcase, a steering arm extending forwardly from the midsection, and an anti-ventilation plate between the midsection and the gearcase. A wing extends laterally from the steering arm. The wing, a lateral side of the cowling, and a lateral side of the gearcase together define a side tripod which supports the outboard motor in a side laydown position. The anti-ventilation plate has a rear edge with laterally outer rear support members, which together with the rear of the cowling form a rear tripod which supports the outboard motor in a rear laydown position.

Systems and methods for measuring angular misalignment between marine propulsion devices

A system for measuring angular misalignment between marine propulsion devices. The system includes first and second members with mounting ends and distal ends. Attachment features are positioned at the mounting ends to attach the members to first and second propulsion shafts of the marine propulsion devices. Emitters configured to emit light are coupled to the first and second members. When the first and second member are attached to the propulsion shafts, a first emitter emits the light towards a target on the second member and a second emitter emits the light towards a target on the first member. The angular misalignment between the propulsion shafts is measurable based on a first offset between the target and where the light from the first emitter shines on the second member, and based on a second offset between the target and where the light from the second emitter shines on the first member.

Debris protective fitting for a jet intake of an outboard jet motor
11097821 · 2021-08-24 ·

A debris protective fitting for a jet inlet of a outboard jet motor with stationary grill bars across the jet intake in front and rear slots with empty front slots provided between the stationary grill bars. Movable grill bars are supported across the jet intake in the empty front slots and a heel plate. The heel plate cups a rear of the jet intake and includes a center mounted stud for attachment of a push-pull cable for rotating the movable grill bars into alignment with the stationary grill bars forming a screen across the jet intake opening. As the movable grill bars are rotated away from the jet intake opening, the spacing between the bars in the screen is doubled causing rocks and other debris to be dislodged and fall out. Cleaning of the screen is thus accomplished without stopping the outboard jet motor or getting out of the jet boat.
