Hybrid airship

A hybrid airship (drone, UAV) capable of significantly extended flight times can use one of two technologies, or both together. The first technology uses a combination of a lifting gas (such as hydrogen or helium) in a central volume or balloon and multirotor technology for lift and maneuvering. The second technology equips the airship with an on board generator to charge the batteries during flight for extended flight operations, with an internal combustion engine (such as a high power to weight ratio gas turbine engine) driving the generator. A quadcopter or other multicopter configuration is desirable.

PROPULSIVE ASSEMBLY, IN PARTICULAR FOR AN AIRCRAFT, FOR PROTECTION AGAINST AN UNBALANCE FORCE AND METHOD OF PROTECTION

A propulsive assembly, in particular for an aircraft, comprising a mast and a propulsion device comprising an engine and a nacelle, the engine comprising a propeller, the propulsive assembly comprising: A standby protection device comprising a first connecting member fixedly mounted to the mast and a second connecting member fixedly mounted to the propulsion device, the second connecting member being rotatably hinged with respect to the first connecting member in at least one degree of freedom, and at least one retaining member keeping the second connecting member fixed with respect to the first connecting member, and configured, in the presence of a predetermined unbalance force on the propeller, to release the standby protection device in order to protect the mast.

CONTROL SYSTEM OF AN UNFINNED LIGHTER THAN AIR PLATFORM AND METHOD FOR SAME

A lighter than air platform an unfinned envelope having two or more propulsion elements coupled with the unfinned envelope proximate to the center of gravity. At least one navigation sensor is configured to monitor an actual flight path of the unfinned envelope, and at least one perturbation sensor is configured to monitor one or more perturbations of the unfinned envelope. A navigation controller is configured to guide the unfinned envelope with coordinated propulsion of the two or more propulsion elements. The navigation controller includes a navigation comparator that compares the actual flight path with a specified flight path of the unfinned envelope and determine a navigation instruction. A perturbation comparator compares the navigation instruction with the monitored one or more perturbations to determine a perturbation compensation. A propulsion coordinator controls propulsion values of each of the propulsion elements based on the navigation instruction and the perturbation compensation.

METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR LIGHTER-THAN-AIR AIRSHIP WITH IMPROVED STRUCTURE AND DELIVERY SYSTEM

A lighter-than-air airship has an exoskeleton constructed of spokes and hubs to create a set of connected hexagrams comprised of isosceles triangles wherein the spokes flex and vary in length to produce the slope of said airship's surface. In one embodiment, the exoskeleton connects to a nose cone that includes a cockpit cabin for controlling the airship's operation from a single location that can be physically separated from the exoskeleton in response to catastrophic events and for autonomous and/or remotely piloted operation. An improved means is also provided for landing and unloading cargo, and through use of unmanned aerial vehicles in another embodiment, the airship is configured for remote pickup, transport, delivery and return of payloads such as packages. In yet another embodiment, the airship provides a communications platform for beam form transmission and satellite signal relay, including in combination with the foregoing disclosed attributes.

A highly maneuverable craft, which may be lighter-than-air, is disclosed, having undulating fins of a light-weight material that may undulate along the horizontal axis of the craft and/or rotate 360 degrees and continuously about the central longitudinal axis of the craft. The fins may be actuated by motors coupled to the fins and coupled to the exterior of the craft via circumferential bands. Motion of the fins creates aerodynamic thrust. The circumferential bands may serve as tracks or channels along which the motors run, allowing the motors to travel 360 degrees or travel continuously around the exterior of the craft and thereby draw the fins about the craft. The circumferential bands may serve as reinforcing components, allowing the motors to exert torque against the body of the craft which may be thin-walled for maximum positive buoyancy. An on-board battery may power the motors via electrical circuits extending around the bands. The position and travel of the motors about the bands may be controlled by a central processing unit. A moveable weight, such as on a track with a motor, may be incorporated into or onto the craft for additional pitch control.
