A propulsion system for an aircraft includes a propeller assembly, a controller, and a pump system. The propeller assembly includes a propeller and a power system, the power system including an electric motor and a motor converter. The controller is connected to the power system and configured to switch the power system into a power-off arrangement in response to a temperature of the motor converter being greater than a threshold temperature. The pump system includes a pump and a coolant circuit that cools the motor converter. The pump is coupled to the propeller and to the motor such that rotation of either drives the pump.

System and method for slowing down aircraft

Methods and systems for slowing down an aircraft having a propeller. The method comprises operating the propeller at a reference speed with the propeller blades in a first position, applying a load to the propeller to slow down a rotational speed of the propeller when the propeller is in a windmilling state or just before the propeller enters the windmilling state, adjusting the propeller blades to a second position in response to the load being applied, to increase the rotational speed of the propeller back towards the reference speed, and operating the propeller at the reference speed with the propeller blades in the second position.

A rotary wing aircraft has a nacelle, at least one rotor provided with at least one blade, a braking device to stop the rotation of the rotor, an emergency parachute provided with a canopy and with a rope, a rocket to start the extraction of the canopy from the nacelle, two operating devices to operate the braking device and the rocket, respectively, and a single actuator device to operate both the operating devices.

AIRCRAFT PROPULSION SYSTEM AND METHODS OF FEATHERING

An aircraft propulsion system including at least first airmover, an electric motor configured to at least partially power the at least first airmover, wherein the first airmover includes a propeller having at least a first position configured to provide thrust to the aircraft and a second position configured to recharge a power source, wherein the second position is a reverse windmilling position, and a heat engine configured to at least partially power the first air mover or a second air mover.

Propeller ground stop mechanism
11845532 · 2023-12-19 · ·

Embodiments provide a propeller ground stop mechanism configured to keep an unpowered propeller of an aircraft (e.g. when the aircraft is on the ground and not operating) static. The propeller is prevented from rotating due to external forces (e.g. an air flow caused by wind, manual rotation of the propeller). When the propeller is powered, and the propeller is providing thrust, the propeller ground stop mechanism automatically disengages and does not provide any drag. Among various benefits, the propeller ground stop mechanism provides added safety to the ground support personnel.

Unmanned aerial vehicle drag augmentation by reverse propeller rotation

An air vehicle configured to augment effective drag to change the rate of descent of the air vehicle in flight via propeller shaft rotation direction reversal, i.e., thrust reversal.
