Aerial launch and/or recovery for unmanned aircraft, and associated systems and methods
Aerial launch and/or recovery for unmanned aircraft, and associated systems and methods are described. A representative system includes a first, carrier aircraft having an airframe, a propulsion system carried by the airframe and positioned to support the carrier aircraft in hover, and a capture line carried by the carrier aircraft and deployable to hang from the carrier aircraft. The capture line is sized to releasably engage with a capture device of a second, carried aircraft. The system further includes a retrieval device positioned to support the carried aircraft for detachment from the capture line.

Methods and apparatus to stabilize and recover unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs)
Methods and apparatus to stabilize and recover unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) are disclosed. A disclosed example apparatus includes a capture line, a mast to support the capture line for contact with the UAV, and a braking stabilizer. The braking stabilizer includes a flexible stem, a body at a distal end of the stem, where the body defines first and second flexible posts, and a filament extending between the first and second posts to contact and engage a hook of the UAV.
Magnetic recovery systems and magnetic docking mechanisms for fixed-wing unmanned aerial vehicles
Example magnetic recovery systems and magnetic docking mechanisms for fixed-wing UAVs are disclosed herein. An example capture mechanism for an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) includes a first member attached to a capture vehicle, the first member having a first portion having a first shape and a magnetic portion; and a second member attached to the UAV, the second member having a second portion having a second shape, wherein the first member and the second member mutually self-align responsive to incidental contact of the first shape and the second shape, and the magnetic portion is to capture the second member.

System and method for anchoring unmanned aerial vehicles to surfaces
A system for anchoring unmanned aerial vehicles to surfaces includes a landing pad configured to be installed on an agricultural machine, with the landing pad defining a landing surface. Furthermore, the system includes an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) configured to land on the landing surface and a top surface of a field across which the agricultural machine is traveling. The UAV, in turn, includes an anchoring device configured to engage soil within the field to anchor the UAV to the field when the UAV has landed on the top surface of the field. Additionally, the anchoring device is further configured to engage the landing pad to anchor the UAV to the landing surface when the UAV has landed on the landing pad.
