An ornithopter aircraft has a main body. A first wing frame mount and a second wing frame mount are mounted to the main body. A first wing frame is rotably mounted to a first wing frame axle on the first wing frame mount. The first wing frame is configured to rotate relative to the main body and the rotation can be powered. The first wing frame feathers are rotably mounted to the first wing frame at first feather axles and the first wing frame feather rotation can be powered. The first wing frame feathers are configured to rotate relative to the first wing frame and the first wing frame feather rotation can be powered. A second wing frame is configured to be rotably mounted to a second wing frame axle on the second wing frame mount.

Aircraft having VTOL, translational and traverse flight

An aircraft capable of Vertical Take-Off and Landing (VTOL) and traverse flight. The aircraft generally includes a fixed outer structure including at least a generally cylindrical wing having an internal body situated within the fixed outer structure. A space is defined between the internal body and the fixed outer structure. Within this space are one or more rotatable ring impellers that create(s) thrust sufficient to achieve lift for the aircraft.

Dual tiltwing aircraft having a quadrilateral linkage

An aircraft having a vertical takeoff and landing flight mode and a forward flight mode. The aircraft includes a fuselage and a dual tiltwing assembly having a vertical lift orientation and a forward thrust orientation relative to the fuselage. The dual tiltwing assembly includes a forward wing and an aft wing coupled together and to the fuselage by a quadrilateral linkage. A distributed propulsion system is coupled to the dual tiltwing assembly and includes a plurality of forward propulsion assemblies coupled to the forward wing and a plurality of aft propulsion assemblies coupled to the aft wing. A flight control system is operably associated with the distributed propulsion system and the dual tiltwing assembly. The flight control system is operable to independently control each of the propulsion assemblies and is operable to transition the dual tiltwing assembly between the vertical lift orientation and the forward thrust orientation.

Airplane with configuration changing in flight

Combination flight and ground apparatus for a vehicle

A vehicle includes a fuselage having a longitudinal axis and a propulsion system that is coupled to the fuselage. The vehicle also includes a pair of articulated appendages that is coupled to the fuselage. Each one of the articulated appendages includes a plurality of airfoil segments and is moveable between a ground configuration, in which each one of the pair of articulated appendages supports the vehicle during takeoff or landing of the vehicle, and a flight configuration, in which each one of the pair of articulated appendages produces lift during flight of the vehicle.

AIRCRAFT

An aircraft includes a wing that is extended through by a ducted fan having movable louvers.
