Thermal anti-icing system with non-circular piccolo tube
A system is provided for an aircraft propulsion system. This system includes an inlet lip, a bulkhead and a piccolo tube for a thermal anti-icing system. The inlet lip extends circumferentially about an axial centerline. The bulkhead extends circumferentially about the axial centerline. The bulkhead is configured with the inlet lip to form a cavity axially between the inlet lip and the bulkhead. The piccolo tube extends circumferentially about the axial centerline within the cavity. The piccolo tube is configured with an elliptical cross-sectional geometry.
Variable diameter piccolo tube for anti-icing system
A piccolo tube for an anti-icing system may comprise an annular tube and a plurality of openings formed along a circumference of the annular tube. The annular tube may comprise a first cross-sectional diameter at an inlet point and a second cross-sectional diameter at a distal point. The second cross-sectional diameter is less than first cross-sectional diameter. The distal point may be 180° from the inlet point.
Composite aerostructure with integrated heating element
A heated composite structure and a method for forming a heated composite structure. The structure includes carbon fibers embedded within a thermoplastic matrix. The carbon fibers are connected with first and second electrodes that are configured to be connected with an electric source such that applying current to the electrodes causes current to flow through the embedded carbon fibers to provide resistive heating sufficient to heat the composite structure to impede formation of ice on the composite structure.
Dynamic Resonance System and Method for the Anti-Icing and De-Icing of Inlet Grids
In one embodiment, a system includes an inlet grid configured to reduce distortion of an incoming airflow. The system may also include a vibration device coupled to the inlet grid and a controller communicatively coupled to the vibration device. The controller may transmit a vibration signal to the vibration device causing the vibration device to vibrate the inlet grid such that the inlet grid resonates at a natural frequency inducing a mode shape in the inlet grid. The mode shape may break up and prevent ice on the inlet grid.
SYSTEM OF OPERATING A GAS TURBINE ENGINE
A system for operating a gas turbine engine to mitigate the risk of ice formation within the engine, the system including a controller arranged to control at least one operational parameter of the engine such that the engine operates in a safe zone; and, a processor configured to function as a determining module to make a comparison between values and determine whether the engine is operating within a safe zone based on at least a core pressure parameter relating to the pressure within the engine and a core temperature parameter relating to the temperature within the engine, wherein the safe zone is defined by the product (multiplied) of the core pressure parameter and core temperature parameter being above a safe threshold.
NACELLE ANTI ICE SYSTEM
An anti-icing system of a nacelle inlet of an engine of an aircraft includes first and second direct acting valves and first and second control valve assemblies fluidly connected to the nacelle inlet. The first direct acting valve includes a first inlet, outlet, valve chamber, and piston. The first piston is positioned in the first direct acting valve. The first control valve assembly is fluidly connected to the first valve. The second direct acting valve includes a second inlet, outlet, valve chamber, and piston. The second piston is positioned in the second direct acting valve. The second direct acting valve is fluidly connected to the first direct acting valve in a series configuration. The second control valve assembly is fluidly connected to the second valve chamber.
SELECTIVELY MELTABLE ADHESIVES FOR BONDING OF DEICERS
A method of making an adhesive for an ice protection assembly includes mixing ferrous nanoparticles into the adhesive. Removal of the adhesive for ice protection assembly inspection or repair includes heating the ferrous nanoparticles in the adhesive to soften the adhesive and allow for easy removal or repositioning of the ice protection assembly.
Aircraft engine nacelle provided with an icing protection system and associated protection method
An aircraft engine nacelle comprising an icing protection system and an icing protection method for such an aircraft engine nacelle. The aircraft engine nacelle comprises an air inlet comprising a lip, a tubular air inlet piece and an icing protection system. The icing protection system comprises an icing prevention means powered continuously by a first electrical energy source and wholly or partly covering the lip, a de-icing means powered by a second electrical energy source covering the tubular air inlet piece and a controller configured to acquire a current total air temperature value, and control the second electrical energy source as a function of the current total air temperature value.
Pressure regulating valve assembly
A pressure regulating valve assembly includes: a valve having an upstream side receiving an input flow and a downstream side providing an output flow, an actuator for opening and closing the valve, including partially opening the valve, and a regulator controlling the actuator to open, close or partially open the valve. The regulator includes a sense pressure port, wherein pressure at the port is maintained constant by the regulator. A chamber has a first entry orifice, a second entry orifice and an exit orifice. The first entry orifice is connected to the upstream side, the second entry orifice is connected to the downstream side, and the exit orifice is connected to the port. The exit orifice provides that the pressure at the exit orifice lies between the pressure at the first entry orifice and the pressure at the second entry orifice.
Method for manufacturing a cellular core for an acoustic panel
A method for manufacturing a cellular core for an acoustic panel is provided. The cellular core includes at least one plurality of acoustic cells and a plurality of de-icing channels that extend longitudinally, each de-icing channel being transversely interposed between two successive cells, and the de-icing channels being adapted to channel a de-icing fluid. A manufacturing step includes producing the acoustic cells and the de-icing channels as a single piece such that the cellular core manufactured during the manufacturing step forms a monolithic part.
