Air intake cover
A cover for an intake of an air-breathing engine in a missile is disclosed. The cover comprises a motive arrangement operable to move from a first configuration in which the cover is lockable to a missile, to a second configuration in which the cover is pushed outwardly from the missile. In the first configuration, the surface of the cover is flush with the surface of the missile and the motive arrangement is located inwardly of the cover surface. A missile provided with such a cover is also disclosed.
Rotorcraft engine inlet configuration to optimize performance in both hover and high speed flight
The present invention achieves technical advantages as a rotorcraft engine inlet configuration to optimize performance in both hover and high-speed flight. A rotorcraft fuselage with a ram air intake and a side air intake allows airflow into the engine inlet plenum. A door can be operably coupled to the fuselage, wherein the door is in an open position when the airspeed is below a first threshold and is in a closed position when the airspeed exceeds a second threshold. Additionally, control logic, compares the rotorcraft airspeed with a stored airspeed to operate an actuator to open and close the door to modulate the airflow into the engine inlet plenum. The present invention realizes the advantages of eliminating the inlet spillage drag due to inlet ram airflow in forward flight and increasing the available engine power by mitigating the loss of inlet air pressure recovery.
Engine inlet with deployable particle separator
A system that filters airborne particles when the aircraft is in a dusty environment and is disengaged when the aircraft is flying up and away from the dusty environment.
AIRFLOW CONTROL SYSTEM AND METHODS THEREOF
A system and method of an airflow control system for a vehicle is described herein. The airflow control system (100) includes an airflow housing (120) defining an airflow passageway (125) extending between a bypass opening (122) and an intake outlet (124). The airflow housing also defines a duct opening (126) positioned between the bypass opening (122) and the intake outlet (124). The intake outlet (124) may be in fluid communication with an engine intake (12) of the vehicle such that air passes from the bypass opening (122) and/or the duct opening (126) to the engine intake (12). The airflow control system (100) also includes a movable duct (160) movably connected to the airflow housing (120) to selectively allow or prevent air passage through the duct opening (126) and into the engine intake (12), and further includes a bypass door (140) movably connected to the airflow housing (120) to selectively allow or prevent air passage through the bypass opening (122) and into the engine intake (12).
Embedded engines in hybrid blended wing body
A hybrid wing aircraft has an engine embedded into a body of the hybrid wing aircraft. The embedded engine has a fan that is received within a nacelle. The body of the aircraft provides a boundary layer over a circumferential portion of a fan. A system delivers additional air to correct fan stability issues raised by the boundary layer.
Aircraft Air Intake Systems Employing Gills
An air intake system for an aircraft, which is switchable between a performance mode and a filtered mode, includes a duct forming filtered air inlet slits. The air intake system also includes interconnected gills adjacent to the filtered air inlet slits. The gills are movable between various gill positions including a closed position substantially covering the filtered air inlet slits and an open position substantially exposing the filtered air inlet slits. The air intake system also includes an actuator configured to move the gills into the closed position in the performance mode and the open position in the filtered mode.
DEPLOYABLE INLET ASSEMBLY FOR AERIAL VEHICLE
An aerial vehicle includes a housing, a propulsion system supported within the housing, and an inlet assembly supported by an outer surface of the housing. The inlet assembly includes: at least one fluid channel in fluid communication with the propulsion system; and a first scoop coupled to the housing and movable between a stowed position and a deployed position. The first scoop is aligned with the housing in the stowed position to prevent air from entering the propulsion system, and the first scoop projects from the outer surface of the housing in the deployed position to direct air through the at least one fluid channel and into the propulsion system to generate thrust. The inlet assembly includes a flap disposed upstream of the first scoop. The flap is moveable between a flap stowed position and a flap deployed position.
Paramotor throttle locking apparatus
The invention described and claimed in this application is a throttle assembly for a paramotor with an integrated locking mechanism which can be engaged to lock the throttle input in any position to maintain level flight. The throttle locking mechanism can be quickly disengaged as needed by squeezing the throttle control lever. The throttle locking mechanism is also able to be tuned when in the locked position as to attain the ideal engine input for level flight. The throttle locking mechanism can be preset and quickly returned to a designated power setting.
System and method for air filtration with self-cleaning filter medium for an aircraft engine
A method for supplying air to an engine of an aircraft via an air supply system of the aircraft. A dynamic air intake vent of the system can be closed by a closure member that is movable between a closed position and an open position. A static air intake vent is equipped with a filter medium. During flight, the method comprises an unfiltered operating mode that comprises the following steps: positioning of the closure member in the open position, and, during a phase of forward travel of the aircraft, dynamic intake of a flow of air, then transfer of a first portion of the flow of air to the engine and a second portion of the flow of air to the filter medium in order to clean the filter medium.
