Nuclear Aircraft Transportation System “KARAVAN” with its components is represented by a group of inventions in the technical and organizational relations. The main and basic invention is Nuclear Aircraft Transportation System “KARAVAN” (NATS). This invention includes two other ones: Aircraft Thrust Nuclear Power Plant, (ATNPP), which in turn includes—Thermal Power Cycle of ATNPP, (TPC ATNPP). In addition, the represented group of inventions is made up of two more inventions: Maintenance System of ATNPP, (MS ATNPP) and Emergency Response System of NATSK, (ERS NATSK).
The concept of practical implementation of the presented group of inventions involves the fact that ATNPP, which is a large unmanned drone aircraft “Tiagach”, supplies the aero-train composed of a number of passenger liners and cargo transport planes using electric motors with traction electric energy in the air.
The power supply of such an aero-train is based on the onboard Nuclear Power Plant of the aircraft “Tiagach”. In this case, the transmission of electric power to the towed electric aircraft of the aero-train is carried out by means of electric split feeders and cables, connecting and disconnecting of which between airplanes of the aero-train is carried out in the air, by analogy with refueling of airplanes in the air with JP fuel.
During the flight of the aero-train on a logistically optimized route, electric airplanes can detach from and attach to the aero-train, taking off and landing along the flight route of the aero-train using their own electric accumulators. In addition, extra ATNPP may be included in the aero-train during its flight, if it is necessary to increase the thrust. At the same time, due to the use of nuclear power, such ATNPP can remain in the air for a conditionally indefinite period of time.
The invention is aimed at creating cost-effective air freight and passenger traffic.

MULTICOPTER
A multicopter comprises: a support; rotors supported by the support; an internal combustion engine supported by the support; a generator supported by the support and driven by the internal combustion engine to generate power; electric motors supported by the support, supplied with electric power from the generators, and configured to drive the rotors; and a circuitry that control a flight of an aircraft by individually adjusting a rotational speed of each of the rotors. The multicopter also comprises a plurality of the internal combustion engines or a plurality of the generators.
MULTICOPTER
A multicopter comprises: a support; rotors supported by the support; an internal combustion engine supported by the support; a generator supported by the support and driven by the internal combustion engine to generate power; electric motors supported by the support, supplied with electric power from the generators, and configured to drive the rotors; and a circuitry that control a flight of an aircraft by individually adjusting a rotational speed of each of the rotors. The multicopter also comprises a plurality of the internal combustion engines or a plurality of the generators.
INTEGRATED IN-VESSEL NEUTRON SHIELD
To reduce size and mass of a nuclear reactor system, an integrated in-vessel shield separates the role of a neutron reflector and a neutron shield. Nuclear reactor system includes a pressure vessel including an interior wall and a nuclear reactor core located within the interior wall of the pressure vessel. Nuclear reactor core includes a plurality of fuel elements and at least one moderator element. Nuclear reactor system includes a reflector located inside the pressure vessel that includes a plurality of reflector blocks laterally surrounding the plurality of fuel elements and the at least one moderator element. Nuclear reactor system includes the in-vessel shield located on the interior wall of the pressure vessel to surround the reflector blocks. In-vessel shield is formed of two or more neutron absorbing materials. The two more neutron absorbing materials include a near black neutron absorbing material and a gray neutron absorbing material.
PASSIVE REACTIVITY CONTROL OF NUCLEAR THERMAL PROPULSION REACTORS
Passive reactivity control technologies that enable reactivity control of a nuclear thermal propulsion (NTP) system with little to no active mechanical movement of circumferential control drums. By minimizing or eliminating the need for mechanical movement of the circumferential control drums during an NTP burn, the reactivity control technologies simplify controlling an NTP reactor and increase the overall performance of the NTP system. The reactivity control technologies mitigate and counteract the effects of xenon, the dominant fission product contributing to reactivity transients. Examples of reactivity control technologies include, employing burnable neutron poisons, tuning hydrogen pressure, adjusting wait time between burn cycles or merging burn cycles, and enhancement of temperature feedback mechanisms. The reactivity control technologies are applicable to low-enriched uranium NTP systems, including graphite composite fueled and tungsten ceramic and metal matrix (CERMET), or any moderated NTP system, such as highly-enriched uranium graphite composite NTP systems.
AUTOMATIC SHUTDOWN CONTROLLER FOR NUCLEAR REACTOR SYSTEM WITH CONTROL DRUMS
A nuclear reactor system includes a nuclear reactor core disposed in a pressure vessel. Nuclear reactor system further includes control drums disposed longitudinally within the pressure vessel and laterally surrounding fuel elements and at least one moderator element of the nuclear reactor core to control reactivity. Each of the control drums includes a reflector material and an absorber material. Nuclear reactor system further includes an automatic shutdown controller and an electrical drive mechanism coupled to rotatably control the control drum. Automatic shutdown controller includes a counterweight to impart a bias and an actuator. To automatically shut down the nuclear reactor core during a loss or interruption of electrical power from a power source to the electrical drive mechanism, the actuator is coupled to the counterweight and responsive to the bias to align the absorber material of one or more control drums to face inwards towards the nuclear reactor core.
NUCLEAR REACTOR CORE ARCHITECTURE WITH ENHANCED HEAT TRANSFER AND SAFETY
An enhanced architecture for a nuclear reactor core includes several technologies: (1) nuclear fuel tiles (S-Block); and (2) a high-temperature thermal insulator and tube liners with a low-temperature solid-phase moderator (U-Mod) to improve safety, reliability, heat transfer, efficiency, and compactness. In S-Block, nuclear fuel tiles include a fuel shape designed with an interlocking geometry pattern to optimize heat transfer between nuclear fuel tiles and into a fuel coolant and bring the fuel coolant in direct contact with the nuclear fuel tiles. Nuclear fuel tiles can be shaped with discontinuous nuclear fuel lateral facets and have fuel coolant passages formed therein to provide direct contact between the fuel coolant and the nuclear fuel tiles. In U-Mod, tube liners with low hydrogen diffusivity retain hydrogen in the low-temperature solid-phase moderator even at elevated temperatures and the high-temperature thermal insulator insulates the solid-phase moderator from the nuclear fuel tiles.
MICRO-FUSION-POWERED AIR AND SPACE CRAFT
A micro-fusion powered craft has a centrally located internal chamber with an upper dome and a bottom opening. The chamber is radially surrounding by the main body of the craft. Ports from a fuel supply in the main body inject a deuterium-containing micro-fusion fuel material as a dispersed cloud within the chamber. Ambient cosmic rays and muons penetrate the upper dome into the chamber and interact with the fuel to produce energetic reaction products. The downwardly directed portion of the reaction products exist the chamber through the bottom opening to produce upward reaction thrust, while the upwardly directed portion of the reaction products are stopped by the upper dome to produce applied upward thrust. The craft may have one or more side ports for dispersing fuel material externally in a desired direction that reacts with ambient cosmic rays and muons to produce reaction products, at least some of which are received by a side of the craft to produce lateral thrust.
