Z-FOLD FLEXIBLE BLANKET SOLAR ARRAY
A solar array structure for a spacecraft includes one or a pair of flexible blanket or other foldable solar arrays and a deployable frame structure. The deployable frame structure includes a T-shaped yoke structure, a T-shaped end structure, and one or more rigid beams, the T-shaped yoke structure connectable to the spacecraft. When deployed, the frame structure tensions the flexible blanket solar array or arrays between the T-shaped yoke structure and the T-shaped end structure. When stowed, the flexible blanket solar array or arrays are folded in an accordion manner to form a stowed pack or packs between the cross-member arms of the T-shaped yoke structure and the T-shaped end structure, also stowed in its own Z-fold arrangement. The cross-member arms of the T-shaped end structure can include a solar array that can provide power before deployment while the flexible blanket solar array is stowed.
Z-FOLD SOLAR ARRAY WITH CURVED SUBSTRATE PANELS
A solar array structure for a spacecraft includes one or a pair of flexible blanket or other foldable solar arrays (such as flexible panels) and a deployable frame structure.
RETRACTABLE Z-FOLD FLEXIBLE BLANKET SOLAR ARRAY
AN ASSEMBLY APPARATUS
The present invention relates to an assembly apparatus for assembling components of spacecraft in space. The assembly apparatus comprises: a core platform (7); and a mobile platform (4) comprising an end effector configured to perform an assembly or manufacturing task. The mobile platform (4) is connected to the core platform (7) by a tether (6a). The core platform comprises a body and a coupling element (15a) connected to and extendable from the body (7) such that the coupling element (15a) may be spaced from the body of the core platform (7). The tether (6a) connects the mobile platform (4) to the body (7) via the coupling element (15a). The assembly apparatus further comprises an actuator configured to vary the length of the tether extending between the coupling element and the mobile platform to control the position of the mobile platform relative to the body of the core platform.
Deployable tape spring device having a rollable membrane and casing, and satellite including the same
A deployable device includes a supporting structure, a mandrel able to move in rotation with respect to the supporting structure about a first axis Z, a membrane able to pass from a rolled-up configuration rolled up around the mandrel about the first axis Z to a deployed configuration deployed along a second axis X substantially perpendicular to the first axis Z. The device comprises two fittings secured to the mandrel at their centre, arranged one on either side of the membrane and comprising first stubs on their periphery, a casing extending between the two fittings, the casing comprising second stubs of a shape complementing the shape of the first stubs, the casing being able to pass from a rolled-up configuration at least partially enveloping the membrane in the rolled-up configuration to a deployed configuration at least partially superposed on the membrane in the deployed configuration.
SOLAR ARRAYS AND RELATED VEHICLES AND ASSEMBLIES
A solar array may include a first rigid composite solar panel including solar cells secured to a first substrate. The solar array may further include a second rigid composite solar panel including solar cells secured to a second substrate. The solar array may also include solar panel modules including solar cells secured to a flexible sheet of material. The solar panel modules may be coupled between the first composite solar panel and the second composite solar panel. The solar array may be configured to be retained in a stowed arrangement with the solar panel modules between the first rigid composite solar panel and the second rigid composite solar panel. The solar array further configured to be extended with an extendable arm until each of the first rigid composite solar panel, the second rigid composite solar panel and the solar panel modules are arranged in a substantially straight line.
Apparatus for holding and releasing with rod-shaped release elements made of a shape memory alloy
An apparatus for holding and releasing a pin in a controlled manner comprises a base, a pin holding element supported at the base, a plurality of rod-shaped release elements made of a shape memory alloy and supported at the base, a holding force application device supported at the base for applying an elastic holding force, and a force transfer element. The force transfer element is subjected to the elastic holding force and, against the elastic holding force, supported at the base via a parallel arrangement of the pin holding element and the release elements. The release elements are arranged with radial play in blind holes in the base, which are arranged around the pin holding element. The pin holding element is deactivatable by heating up the release elements beyond a transition temperature of their shape memory alloy and by a resulting recovery of the release elements to straight memory shapes.
MORPHING SELF-STIFFENING ARRAY (MOSSA) AND HINGE
A self-deployable array of panels includes a plurality of panels, each panel having a first compressed panel thickness state and a second expanded panel thickness state, and including a spring bias element biased to the second expanded panel thickness state. A plurality of locking hinges hingedly couple each of the panels to an adjoining panel. Each locking hinge is biased to an open position. A release of stored potential energy of both of the spring bias element biased to the second expanded panel thickness state, and the locking hinges biased to the open position causes the self-deployable array of panels to self-deploy from a folded stowed state. A single part offset locking hinge is also described.
