Method of cutting off labels

Disclosed is a method of cutting off self-adhesive linerless endless tape labels, using a cutter of a label printer, wherein the cutter comprises a transport roller, which is rotatable about an axis of rotation, and a blade unit that is linearly travelable in parallel with the axis of rotation of the transport roller and that has a cutting blade directed in the direction toward the transport roller, where tape labels pass between the transport roller and the blade unit, and are transported further step-wise in a motorized manner, by one label, and, between two consecutive further transport steps, the blade unit is linearly traveled in a motorized manner between a start position and a target position in order to cut off a label, such that the label is completely cut off and is held at the transport roller by the blade unit in the target position of the blade unit.

In some embodiments, the system may include a support bracket configured for being mounted to a label printer. The system may include a tamp system. The tamp system may be configured for being mounted to the support bracket. The crush-cutting unit may be mounted to the support bracket. The system may include a printer configured for printing at least one of an image and text on the label web. The system may include an anvil positioned to hold the label web in place when the label web may be disposed between the anvil and the crush-cutting unit. The anvil may be positioned above the crush-cutting unit.

Variable logistical and/or traceability information can be printed directly onto any off-the-shelf self-adhesive tape so that an additional adhesive label on the product and/or packaging will no longer be required. It also allows for a reduction in the amount of preprinted tape and/or packaging material. All needed visual differentiations (branding, product information, packaging content or other) can be displayed on the tape while keeping the packaging itself standardized.
