Damper mechanisms are provided in conjunction with housings of various different appliances and are disposed at first positions at which the dampers effectively close off or seal the interior regions of the appliances within which various heated, refrigerated, or frozen environments have been established. Such damper mechanisms can be moved to second positions so as to permit food items to be inserted into, or extracted from, the various housings of the appliances, but will automatically return to their first positions so as to again close off or seal the interior regions of the appliances. In this manner, thermal energy is preserved whereby the appliances are enabled to operate at peak energy efficiency.

The invention relates to a container (A) having two cover halves, which are outwardly and inwardly pivotable by means of hinges. Retaining hooks for locking the cover halves are arranged at the upper edges of two walls, and the cover halves have, along their sides, openings for receiving the retaining hooks. The retaining hooks are movable, the retaining hooks being movable parallel to the upper edge of the container walls from an idle position and being connected to a spring element. When the retaining hook is moved, the spring element is preloaded, the retaining hooks being spontaneously moved back by the spring force. In order to lock the cover halves, the cover halves are pivoted inward and pressed onto the retaining hooks, whereby the retaining hooks are slid toward the center of the side walls until the retaining hooks penetrate completely into the openings in the cover halves. Because of the spring force, the retaining hooks are moved back and snap in on the top side of the cover halves. Protrusions on the retaining hooks and on the underside of the cover halves are used to raise and keep raised the cover halves in the event of unlocking. The container (A) can be easily and quickly locked and unlocked.

The inner volume can be accessed by opening the hinging lid. The hinging lid can be selectively opened, segment by segment, to access the inner volume while minimizing the exchange of air between the inner volume and the air surrounding the cooler. The hinging lid is comprised of a pull flap tab, an interior layer of reflective insulating material, at least one layer of support insulation material and a waterproof outer surface layer. The support insulation material of the hinging lid is divided into at least two discrete segments comprising a first segment and a second segment and can be articulated as a hinge between the segments.

The first locking member engages with the second locking member for preventing pivoting of the first closure relative to the second closure and covering the container chamber and prevents access into the container chamber of the container. The first locking member disengaging with the second locking member for permitting pivoting of the first closure relative to the second closure and permitting access into the container chamber of the container and defines a reduced closure height relative to the container.
