A storage bag including a film sheet is provided. The film sheet defines a first chamber, a second chamber located adjacent the first chamber; and a releasable seal preventing fluid communication between the first chamber and the second chamber. The releasable seal may be configured to release when an internal temperature within either the first chamber or the second chamber exceeds a temperature threshold or an internal pressure within either the first chamber or the second chamber exceeds a pressure threshold.

The separation of the first food component from the second food component maintains the surface area for the first and second food components to facilitate heating of the first and second food components. The first food component may have a liquid based content for producing steam when heated, and one or both of the first container and the second container may define a passage for providing airflow and steam flow for contacting the second container and/or the second foodstuff and heating or steaming the second food component. Additionally, the second container may be steam impermeable for cooking bread and the like.

Disclosed is an improved food package that includes a food bowl having an open top and a closed bottom and in which a food (e.g., hummus) and a topping are packaged. A sealing ledge extends inwardly from the food bowl downwardly from and below the open top thereof. A peel-off film that is sealed against the sealing ledge extends laterally across the food bowl above and in close proximity to the food and the topping. The peel-off film closes the food bowl and prevents the food and its topping from spilling out. By virtue of locating the peel-off film below the open top of the food bowl, a relatively low volume airspace is established between the film and the food to prevent a premature mixing of the food and the topping when the food package undergoes a high pressure processing (HPP) treatment.
