The invention relates to a firewood handling device for firewood pieces (6), comprising a conveyor (1), including one or more rotating, endless chains (9), wherein the conveyor extends from an input end (2) to an output end (4). The conveyor chains are provide with carriers (10), which project outwards from the outer sides of the chains and extend across and on a distance from each other in relation to the longitudinal extension of the conveyor such that spaces are formed between the carriers into which firewood pieces (6) can be positioned having their longitudinal extension across the longitudinal extension of the conveyor. The carriers (10) are formed with at least two, not cut through slots or recesses (42, 43, 44) from below as well as from above which overlap each other, wherein the conveyor (1) in its output end (4) is provided with at least two inner guiding members (45) as well as with at least two outer guiding members (46). Both the inner and the outer guiding members are provided with smooth upper sliding surfaces and are mounted such that the sliding surfaces (45′) of the inner guiding members extend and have an increasing height in the conveying direction and are positioned such that they are aligned with the slots or recesses extending from below in the carriers, whereas the sliding surfaces (46′) of the outer guiding members extend and have a decreasing height in the conveying direction and are positioned such that they are aligned with the slots or recesses extending from above in the carriers, and wherein the sliding surfaces of the inner and the outer guiding members extend essentially without interruption or somewhat overlapping in relation to each other as seen in the conveying direction.

A first one of the movable stairs may include an outer step member and an inner step member that is positioned between the outer step member and a second one of the movable stairs. The step members may be movable synchronously as a single stair to transport larger workpieces and asynchronously to transport smaller workpieces on the outer step member. Optionally, the workpiece singulator may further include a sensor configured to detect the size and/or position of a workpiece. In some embodiments, the workpiece singulator may be coupled with a controller configured to control the position of the outer step member independently of the position of the inner step member. In various embodiments, a workpiece singulator as disclosed herein may be operable to selectively singulate workpieces of different sizes.

The unit includes a frame defining a stick-receiving area for receiving sticks and a hold-and-release mechanism configured to dispense each stick one-by-one. The hold-and-release mechanism includes a lower holding member selectively operable to hold and release a bottommost stick, and an upper holding member selectively operable to hold and release a penultimate stick. The unit also includes a controller configured to operate the lower and upper holding members to release the bottommost stick from the stick-receiving area and knock on the penultimate stick. The unit further has a stick-laying mechanism configured to receive and lay the released bottommost stick over the board layer.

The thawing channel has an entrance and an exit for the pieces of raw timber for the raw wood pieces to enter and exit the thawing channel. A plurality of nozzles are located on the thawing channel to introduce a thawing liquid into the thawing channel. A first section of the thawing channel and a second section of the thawing channel are located between the entrance and the exit. The exit is closer to the second section than to the first section. At least one of the nozzles is located in the first section and connected via a pumping line to a suction opening located in the second section. Further disclosed is a method for thawing frozen raw wood pieces.
