The invention relates to a method for winding up a web of material (4) by means of an apparatus (1) including at least: one winding-up space (2) for accommodating an at least partially wound up web of material (wound roll (3)) having a winding center (Z); means for conveying and/or manipulating the web of material prior to and/or during winding-up; including the following steps: a) operating the apparatus (1); b) monitoring the web of material (4) and/or the resulting wound roll (3) by means of at least one image capturing device (30) for obtaining at least one current state (actual state) of the web of material (4) and/or of the wound roll (3); c) comparing at least one actual state to at least one target state and corresponding to the actual state, and determining at least one deviation of the actual state from the corresponding target state; d) if the deviation exceeds/falls below at least one predetermined limit value, performing a correction of at least one operating parameter of the apparatus (1) which operating parameter is at least a contributing factor for the deviation.

A film winding system is disclosed having a first winding station which is configured in a winding position to wind the film web into a film bale. A contact roller and a compensating roller are provided, wherein the contact roller is arranged adjacent to the first winding station in the winding position and is configured to guide the film web to the first winding station. The compensating roller is located before the contact roller in the direction of travel of the film web and is configured to guide the film web to the contact roller and to set a film tension. A first adjustment device is provided and configured to move the contact roller towards the winding station or away from the winding station, thereby enabling the setting of a specific contact pressure between the contact roller and the film bale. The first adjustment device comprises a slide system or an adjusting spindle.

A film winding system is disclosed having a first winding station which is configured in a winding position to wind the film web into a film bale. A contact roller and a compensating roller are provided, wherein the contact roller is arranged adjacent to the first winding station in the winding position and is configured to guide the film web to the first winding station. Contact roller
A contact roller according to one embodiment includes a cylindrical rubber roll main body, two spiral groove groups provided in a surface of the rubber roll main body, spiral rubber layers which is provided in the groove groups and hardness of which is lower than the rubber roll main body, and a surface rubber layer which covers a surface of the rubber roll main body and hardness of which is lower than that of the rubber roll main body. Nip pressure of the surface rubber layer corresponding to the rubber roll main body is higher than that of the surface rubber layer corresponding to the spiral rubber layers.
Contact roller
A contact roller according to one embodiment includes a cylindrical rubber roll main body, two spiral groove groups provided in a surface of the rubber roll main body, spiral rubber layers which is provided in the groove groups and hardness of which is lower than the rubber roll main body, and a surface rubber layer which covers a surface of the rubber roll main body and hardness of which is lower than that of the rubber roll main body. Nip pressure of the surface rubber layer corresponding to the rubber roll main body is higher than that of the surface rubber layer corresponding to the spiral rubber layers.
Adaptive sheet caliper control system and apparatus and methods
The present invention provides an adaptive control system to control a plant using direct output feedback in which a function of the full plant state, as opposed to estimates thereof, is used for feedback control of the plant. The adaptive control system of this invention is therefore highly useful in the control of plants, particularly plants for controlling the physical properties of rolls of web material and more particularly a calendering apparatus. Accordingly, in a particularly preferred embodiment the adaptive control system of this invention controls loading of a calender apparatus, such as a pair of opposed rolls forming a calendering stack, based upon the physical properties of a previously processed web.
