Provided is a glass roll (1), including: a winding core (2); a film body (F), which is taken up into a roll shape by the winding core (2), and includes a glass film (3) and a scattering prevention film (7) having a smaller width than the glass film (3); and flanges (8) which are mounted to the winding core (2), and which are arranged on both sides of the film body (F) in a width direction. The film body (F) includes a detachable displacement prevention film (6) on a termination end portion side of the glass film (3) in a take-up direction. The displacement prevention film (6) includes a wide portion (6a) having a lager width than the glass film (3).

A material strip collection mechanism coiling fed material strip on a reel includes a vertically positioned reel bracket rotatable about a vertical axis between a first configuration and a second configuration. The mechanism further includes a first arm holding the reel and a second arm each rotatable to drive the reel and coil the material strip on the reel. With the reel bracket in the first configuration, the first arm is in a material strip collection position to allow the material strip to be coiled on each empty reel held by the first arm to form a full reel, while the second arm is in a standby position to allow the full reel held by the second arm to be replaced with a new empty reel.

When roll paper is held in the paper compartment, the paper loading member is installed in the paper compartment with a first side of the flange contacting the first axial end of the paper, and the roll support member is inserted into the roll paper. When the paper loading member is installed in the paper compartment, the first side of the flange faces the opening.

A sleeve is provided which is adapted to slide over the spindle and attach to the spindle arm for accepting a second paper roll. The second paper roll has a different size than the first paper roll. A printer having such a spindle assembly is provided, as is a method for accommodating different sized paper rolls in a printer.

The lever may be moved between a first position in which the print medium bends and a second position in which the print medium bends at a shallower angle than at the first position.
