Input handling for media processing devices
A media processing device includes: a hopper for supporting a stack of media units (e.g. cards), the hopper including (i) a gate wall configured to abut leading edges of the media units and (ii) an outlet defined at an end of the gate wall; a pick roller at the outlet for engaging an outer one of the media units in the stack and dispensing the outer media unit from the hopper to a media processing path; the gate wall including a flexible gate at the outlet, the flexible gate configured to deflect toward the media processing path responsive to the outer media unit being driven into the flexible gate by the pick roller, wherein the outer media unit deflects when passing by the flexible gate, permitting the outer media unit to be dispensed from the hopper.
Sheet conveyer
A sheet conveyer having a sheet tray, a tray-driving mechanism, a conveyance guide, a feed roller, a separator, a conveyer, a conveyer-driving mechanism, a controller, and a sheet sensor to detect sheets on the sheet tray, is provided. The conveyer-driving mechanism includes a transmission-active portion and a transmission-passive portion. A conveying velocity to convey the sheets by the conveyer is higher than a conveying velocity to convey the sheets by the feed roller and the separator. The transmission-active portion and the transmission-passive portion are rotatable about a transmission axis. The transmission-passive portion rotates passively by being pushed by the transmission-active portion. After the sheet sensor detects absence of the sheets, and before the transmission-passive portion starts rotating passively, the controller conducts a specific action to move the sheet tray downward by controlling the tray-driving mechanism.

A sheet processing apparatus includes a first conveyance rotary member, a second conveyance rotary member, a punch member, a sensor, a punch motor, a conveyance motor, a first drive transmission portion including a first number of drive transmission members configured to sequentially transmit driving force of the conveyance motor to the first conveyance rotary member, and a second drive transmission portion including a second number of drive transmission members configured to sequentially transmit driving force of the conveyance motor to the second conveyance rotary member, the second number being larger than the first number.

A printing apparatus 10 includes support member 12 that supports a core body Ra of a roll medium R, a transport mechanism 17 that transports the print medium S drawn out from the roll medium R, a first accommodation sidewall 27 and a second accommodation sidewall 28 arranged in a width direction, a print head 22, and a trailing edge detection section 60 that detects that all of the print medium S that is drawable out from the roll medium R has been drawn out by the transport mechanism 17, wherein the first accommodation sidewall 27 has groove 50, and the roll medium R is accommodated in an accommodation section 11 by engaging the support member 12 with the groove 50 and the trailing edge detection section 60 detects that the support member 12 is separated from an engagement surface 52 of the groove 50.

MEDIA TRANSPORT
A media transport includes a feed roller to be rotated in a first direction, and an input/output roller to be rotated in the first direction to direct media into a media path with rotation of the feed roller in the first direction, where the feed roller is to be rotated in a second direction opposite the first direction to advance the media within the media path and, with the rotation of the feed roller in the second direction, the input/output roller is to be temporarily decoupled from rotation with the feed roller.
Recording device
A recording device includes a first transportation path along which a medium is transported, a recording unit configured to record on the medium on the first transportation path, a second transportation path branching from the first transportation path, a flap located at the junction and configured to be moved to a first position to open the first transportation path and to a second position to close the first transportation path, and a driving section. After the medium passes the junction, the flap is positioned at the second position to come in contact with the medium traveling upstream along the first transportation path and guide the medium to the second transportation path. The flap is moved to the first position by a driving force of the driving section.
Image reading apparatus
An image reading apparatus, includes: a supply tray; a discharge tray; a conveyance guide; a reading sensor; a discharge unit, which includes a discharge opening to discharge the sheet conveyed by the conveyance guide to the discharge tray and is configured to move from a third position to a fourth as the document supported by the paper feed tray is decreased, the fourth position being higher than the third position; a first drive source, which generates a drive force; a first rotation body, which moves the movable plate by transmitting the drive force from the first drive source to the movable plate; and a second rotation body, which moves the discharge unit by transmitting the drive force from the first drive source to the discharge unit, wherein a diameter of the first rotation body and a diameter of the second rotation body are different from each other.
MEDIUM FEEDER AND IMAGE READING APPARATUS
A medium feeder includes a feed roller that feeds a medium loaded on a medium loading section; a transport roller disposed downstream relative to the feed roller; a first driving source that drives at least the feed roller; a second driving source that drives at least the transport roller; and a housing that houses the feed roller, the transport roller, the first driving source, and the second driving source, wherein the housing includes a lower unit that constitutes a lower part of the housing, and an upper unit openable relative to the lower unit, and the first driving source and the second driving source are disposed on both sides relative to a center part of the lower unit in a width direction perpendicular to a medium transportation direction.
MEDIA STACK COMPRESSION
Embodiments provide methods, apparatuses, and systems for compressing media in a media stack. In various embodiments, a paddle moves between various positions. During the move, the paddle is configured to compress the media stack.
