PROCESS FOR TURNING UP IN A PAPER MACHINE AND PAPER MANUFACTURE
20200039777 · 2020-02-06 ·

A paper-making machine and process, in which a paper web passes over a pope roller to a main roll and a new roll can be brought into contact with the pope roller when the main roll becomes a full roll, is improved by arranging at least two paper cutting tools to cut a paper web from each of two outer lateral edges to form two or more leader portions. A tail of the paper web formed on the full roll is symmetric and the leader portions on the new roll are also symmetric. Adhesive spray or tape can be applied to the paper web in the area of the leader portions. Air jets can also be used to bias the leader portions towards a surface of the new roll.

[PROBLEM] To provide a method of measuring the thickness of long sheet material and a thickness measuring system, that measures the thickness of paper separately for a component in a machine direction and a component in a cross direction without scanning or filtering, that does not require a conventional basis weight sensor using a radioisotope and can be applied even to small paper machines.

[SOLUTION] The method of measuring the thickness of long sheet material W wound on to a reel spool 16 while being pressed by a reel drum 12, includes: measuring the increase in the roll diameter of a wound roll R formed from the long sheet material W in a non-contact manner; measuring the number of rotations of the reel spool 16; and determining the thickness of the long sheet material by calculation using the measured increase in the roll diameter and the number of rotations.

Method, System and a Computer Program Product for Condition Monitoring of a Fiber Web or Paper Finishing Machine

A method for monitoring a machine element in a paper finishing machine (10). The machine element mounted for rotation machine elements (16-19) equipped with a sensor assembly (24) measuring force or pressure, and a counter-pair (15, 20, 33, 44) for said machine element. The machine element is made to rotate against the counter-pair, a measurement signal (25) is generated between the machine element and the counter-pair with the sensor assembly, and recording a reference cross-directional profile (21) of force or pressure generated. Condition monitoring (38) of vibration with the reference profile is by comparison of current signals with the reference so as to detect periodic variation (39.1, 39.2) in the cross-directional pressure profile, and producing visual information (37) from the analysis for monitoring. The invention also relates to a corresponding system, a rotating machine element for the method or the system, and a computer program product.

Method and apparatus for separating and spooling a paper web

A paper tape turn-up construct including a cover flap and a multi-bend structure to both protect an adhesive layer and to build an optimized elevated structure to present the adhesive layer during initiation of the paper web turn up process. Methods and apparatus to form the constructs and apply the constructs to paper production equipment are also included. The multi-bend paper turn up construct includes layers of adhesive and pulpable substrate with strategically located release materials, such as silicon that enhance a bridging of a gap between a rotating paper web and an empty spool surface.

Winding apparatus for winding a web into a roll
09555993 · 2017-01-31 · ·

A winding apparatus for winding a web material onto an empty core and into a roll, having a winding drum for guiding the web material supported on a first side, and cutting device for cross-cutting the web material prior to winding of it onto an empty core. The winding apparatus has air nozzles for ejecting compressed air onto the first side of the web material near a free end of the web material. By ejecting a gas, which preferably could be compressed air, onto the free end of the web, the free end is blown towards the empty core which is rotated. When the free end of the web material comes into contact with the rotating empty core, due to the ejected gas/air, the web will easily be caught by the rotating empty core, even without tape or adhesive, and a smooth new roll of web material wound.

APPARATUS WITH ZONE COATED TRANSFER TAPE FOR SEPARATING AND SPOOLING A PAPER WEB

The present invention relates to a paper web processing apparatus featuring a transfer tape construct designed for efficient turn-up operations. The apparatus includes a carrier paper with a zone coating applied in longitudinal stripes, an adhesive layer laminated to the carrier paper, and a cover flap that protects the adhesive from environmental contaminants. The transfer tape construct is mounted on an empty web spool, and the zone coating comprises a silicone-based release material. The cover flap is engineered to open in response to centrifugal and aerodynamic forces during spool rotation, facilitating the separation of the adhesive layer into ribbons along the zone-coated areas. This configuration allows the cover flap to bridge a gap between the empty web spool and a paper web, ensuring a seamless transfer process. The apparatus is designed to enhance the reliability and efficiency of paper web processing, particularly in high-speed environments.

Adhesive paperband composite for turn up procedure

Paperband composites for transferring a paper web from a full web spool to an empty web spool. In some embodiments, the paperband composite is applied in several layers to an empty web spool, each layer suitable for fixedly attaching a paper web to the empty spool. Multiple layers of paperband composite allow for use during multiple turn-up procedures with one layer of paperband composite used per turn-up procedure. In some examples, the paperband composite may be applied to a paper spool tangentially along the spool face and perpendicular to the axis of rotation of the spool. In other examples, the paperband composite may be spirally wrapped around the paper spool.
