ROLL-TO-ROLL APPARATUS
According to an embodiment of the present disclosure, a roll-to-roll apparatus may include an unwinding unit, a winding unit, at least one supporting unit, at least one breakage sensor, and at least one holding unit. The at least one supporting unit is disposed between the unwinding unit and the winding unit, and supports the flexible substrate to move from the unwinding unit to the winding unit. The at least one breakage sensor may sense whether the flexible substrate is broken or not. The at least one holding unit may grip the flexible substrate while a breakage of the flexible substrate is sensed by the at least one breakage sensor.

A brake is provided for an idler roll (10) of a fiber web machine, in particular of a slitter-winder, which idler roll (10) has an outer shell surface (13). The brake (20) is located outside the outer shell surface (13) of the idler roll (10) in close vicinity of the idler roll (10) in a non-contacting position. The brake (20) has a permanent magnet (25), which is configured to be moved from non-braking position to a braking position and vice versa by an actuator or cylinder (35, 45).

Apparatus and method for printing onto a polymeric web
The present invention is directed to a method and apparatus for securely applying print to a web of continuous polymeric film. The web can first travel in a machine direction on a tensioning roller and onto a folding board whereupon the web is divided into first and second partial widths with a cross-section of the web taking on a U-shape or a V-shape. In between the cross-section of these two partial widths a printer can be placed such that the printer prints onto an inner surface of first partial width. Once the printing is complete, the folding of the web can be completed such that an inner surface of the second partial width is in contact with, covers, and protects the printed matter placed onto the first partial width.

A method of operating an off-line finishing device for fiber webs, in particular an off-line slitter-winder for winding fiber webs, wherein in operating the off-line device the running speed is automatically optimized to minimize cost of web breaks. The method considers the costs associated with a web break during unwinding in addition to the cost benefit of maximizing web unwind speed so as to maximize machine utilization. The method determines an optimal web break stopping time in a web break situation and how often a web break is predicted. Automatic optimization incorporates limitations including the maximum rotation speed of the parent roll, the maximum speed of the fiber web being unwound, the maximum positive torque which can be applied to the parent roll to accelerate the parent roll to a rotation rate which produces a desired web speed, and maximum braking torque.
APPARATUS AND METHOD FOR PRINTING ONTO A POLYMERIC WEB
The present invention is directed to a method and apparatus for securely applying print to a web of continuous polymeric film.
