MECHANOCHEMICAL SYNTHESIS OF RARE EARTH SULFIDES
The present invention pertains to a process for preparing particles of rare earth sulfide comprising the steps of:preparing a reaction mixture comprising at least one compound comprising at least one rare earth element (A) and at least one alkali metal sulfide (B),submitting said reaction mixture to a mechanical stress so as to cause a chemical reaction that produces the particles of rare earth sulfide.
Upgrade of yttrium in a mixed rare earth stream using iminodiacetic acid functionalized resin
Disclosed herein are methods, techniques, and processes for enhancing the purity of a mixed rare earth solution. In one embodiment the rare earth mixture may include Lanthanum, Cerium, Praseodymium, Neodymium, Promethium, Samarium, Europium, Gadolinium, Terbium, Dysprosium, Holmium, Erbium, Thulium, Ytterbium, Lutetium, Scandium, and/or Yttrium. In one embodiment, the resin is a chelating resin that interacts poorly with one or more rare earth elements. In one embodiment a rare earth is selectively excluded for example, Lanthanum (sometimes considered a transition metal), Cerium, Praseodymium, Neodymium, Promethium, Samarium, Europium, Gadolinium, Terbium, Dysprosium, Holmium, Erbium, Thulium, Ytterbium, Lutetium, Scandium, and/or Yttrium. In one embodiment, yttrium is selectively excluded from the column.
Rare-earth-doped ternary sulfides for mid-wave and long-wave IR lasers
The invention relates to rare-earth-doped ternary sulfides. The rare-earth-doped ternary sulfides may be used as an active material for mid-wave infrared and long-wave infrared lasers and amplifiers. Methods for producing laser materials including rare-earth-doped ternary sulfides, as well as lasers and amplifiers incorporating the laser materials, are also provided.
MORPHOLOGICALLY AND SIZE UNIFORM MONODISPERSE PARTICLES AND THEIR SHAPE-DIRECTED SELF-ASSEMBLY
Monodisperse particles having: a single pure crystalline phase of a rare earth-containing lattice, a uniform three-dimensional size, and a uniform polyhedral morphology are disclosed. Due to their uniform size and shape, the monodisperse particles self assemble into superlattices. The particles may be luminescent particles such as down-converting phosphor particles and up-converting phosphors. The monodisperse particles of the invention have a rare earth-containing lattice which in one embodiment may be an yttrium-containing lattice or in another may be a lanthanide-containing lattice. The monodisperse particles may have different optical properties based on their composition, their size, and/or their morphology (or shape). Also disclosed is a combination of at least two types of monodisperse particles, where each type is a plurality of monodisperse particles having a single pure crystalline phase of a rare earth-containing lattice, a uniform three-dimensional size, and a uniform polyhedral morphology; and where the types of monodisperse particles differ from one another by composition, by size, or by morphology. In a preferred embodiment, the types of monodisperse particles have the same composition but different morphologies. Methods of making and methods of using the monodisperse particles are disclosed.

METHOD FOR PRODUCING AMORPHOUS SULFIDE EXHIBITING EXCELLENT IONIC CONDUCTIVITY
The present invention relates to a method for controlling the density of an amorphous sulfide and, more specifically, to a method for producing an amorphous sulfide having high ionic conductivity of lithium ions by controlling the interplanar distance between a metal atom and a chalcogen atom through the adjustment of the reaction temperature and rate, in carrying out a sulfidation reaction by supplying a sulfur source in a gas phase onto the surface of a metal or an alloy.
