METHOD FOR DRAWING AN OPTICAL FIBER USING ROD-IN CYLINDER TECHNIQUE
A method for drawing an optical fibre from an optical fibre preform with a core section, a cladding section, a first gap and a second gap. The optical fibre preform is attached to an optical fibre draw tower through a handle. In addition, the optical fibre preform is connected to a vacuum system to supply and remove gas from the first gap and the second gap. Moreover, the gas is supplied to create a thermal barrier between the core section and the cladding section during heating of the optical fibre preform. Further, the optical fibre preform is heated inside a heating furnace to draw the optical fibre from the optical fibre preform.
OPTICAL FIBERS WITH HIGH DOPANT CONCENTRATIONS AND SEED-FREE INTERFACES AND METHODS OF MAKING THE SAME
A method of fabricating an optical fiber, the method including providing a core portion including a doped portion having greater than or equal to 1.6 wt. % of a halide dopant and eliminating seed precursor sites at an exterior surface of the core portion, the seed precursor sites forming seeds in the optical fiber, wherein the eliminating the seed precursor sites includes one or more of: (i) fabricating the core portion by densifying an exterior portion of a silica soot body prior to exposing the silica soot body to the halide dopant, and (ii) exposing the exterior surface of the core portion to a reactive etchant. The method further including forming an optical fiber preform by applying cladding material to the exterior surface of the core portion and drawing the fiber preform into the optical fiber.
Optical fiber manufacturing method using relative bulk densities
An optical fiber manufacturing method includes setting a first holding member and a rod inside a glass pipe, the first holding member made of glass and having plural holes formed, so that the rod is supported by the first holding member; filling glass particles between the rod and a glass pipe inner wall; holding the rod such that the rod and the filled glass particles are enclosed by the glass pipe inner wall and the first and second holding members, and sealing one end of the glass pipe and manufacturing an intermediate; and manufacturing an optical fiber from the intermediate, wherein a bulk density of the first and second holding members is set with reference to a bulk density of a filling portion made from the glass particles, and the predetermined range is determined according to a core diameter permissible variation range in its longitudinal direction.
Tapered core fiber manufacturing methods
Tapered core fibers are produced using tapered core rods that can be etched or ground so that a fiber cladding has a constant diameter. The tapered core can be an actively doped core, or a passive core. One or more sleeving tubes can be collapsed onto a tapered core rod and exterior portions of the collapsed sleeving tubes can be ground to provide a constant cladding diameter in a fiber drawn from the preform.
SYSTEM AND METHOD FOR MANUFACTURING OPTICAL FIBER
A system for drawing optical fiber in microgravity including a sealed housing to prevent infiltration of at least humidity and filled with a dry environment, a preform holder located within the sealed housing to hold preform material, a furnace located within the sealed housing to receive the preform material from the preform holder and to heat the preform material from which the optical fiber is pulled, a feed system to move the preform material from the preform holder to the furnace, a drawing mechanism located within the sealed housing to pull the optical fiber from the preform material within the furnace, a diameter monitor located within the sealed housing to measure a diameter of the optical fiber and a fiber collection mechanism located within the sealed housing to gather and store the optical fiber.
METHOD AND DEVICE FOR MANUFACTURING A HOLLOW-CORE OPTICAL FIBRE
A method for manufacturing an optical fibre, in which a preform is inserted into a furnace; the preform is drawn via an outlet of the furnace; and the drawn preform has a working area including a structure composed of walls, and gas streams are applied to the two opposite faces of these walls, which streams run along the walls in opposite directions, so as to subject the walls to a shear force of gas streams counter-propagating on either side of the walls. A device for manufacturing an optical fibre is also provided.
HOLLOW-CORE FIBER CABLE AND METHOD OF MANUFACTURING THE SAME
The invention generally relates to optical fibers, and, more particularly, to hollow-core optical fibers and cables for use in high-speed data transmission, including transmission of telecommunications data, and methods of manufacturing such hollow-core optical fibers and cables.
SYSTEM AND METHOD FOR MANUFACTURING OPTICAL FIBER
A system for precoating a preform for drawing optical fiber including a diameter sensor to determine a diameter of pulled optical fiber, a cooling system to cool the optical fiber once it is pulled from a furnace, a coating system to apply a coating to the optical fiber once it has cooled and an ultra-violet lamp to cure the coating.
