Dense sintered product
Sintered product having a relative density of greater than 90%, with, to more than 80% of the volume thereof, a stack of flat ceramic platelets, the assembly of the platelets having a mean thickness of less than 3 μm, having a width of greater than 50 mm, and including more than 20% of alumina, as a percentage on the basis of the weight of the product. The width of the product is the largest dimension measured in the plane in which the length of the product is measured, along a direction perpendicular to the direction of the length. The length of the product is the largest dimension thereof in a plane parallel to the general plane in which the platelets extend.
Process for rapid processing of SiC and graphitic matrix triso-bearing pebble fuels
A method for producing microencapsulated fuel pebble fuel more rapidly and with a matrix that engenders added safety attributes. The method includes coating fuel particles with ceramic powder; placing the coated fuel particles in a first die; applying a first current and a first pressure to the first die so as to form a fuel pebble by direct current sintering. The method may further include removing the fuel pebble from the first die and placing the fuel pebble within a bed of non-fueled matrix ceramic in a second die; and applying a second current and a second pressure to the second die so as to form a composite fuel pebble.
METHOD FOR PREPARING A MATERIAL MADE FROM ALUMINOSILICATE AND METHOD FOR PREPARING A COMPOSITE MATERIAL HAVING AN ALUMINOSILICATE MATRIX
The invention relates to a method for preparing a material based on an aluminosilicate selected from barium aluminosilicate BAS, barium-strontium aluminosilicate BSAS, and strontium aluminosilicate SAS, said aluminosilicate consisting of aluminosilicate with a hexagonal structure, characterised in that it includes a single sintering step in which a mixture of powders of precursors of said aluminosilicate, including an aluminium hydroxide Al(OH).sub.3 powder, are sintered by a hot-sintering technique with a pulsed electric field SPS; whereby a material based on an aluminosilicate, said aluminosilicate consisting of an aluminosilicate with a hexagonal structure is obtained. The material based on an aluminosilicate prepared by said method can be used in a method for preparing a composite material consisting of an aluminosilicate matrix reinforced by reinforcements made of metalloid or metal oxide.
METHOD FOR SINTERING CERAMIC GREEN BODY AT ROOM TEMPERATURE AND CERAMIC
A method for achieving sintering of ceramics at room temperature is disclosed. The method includes steps of: providing ceramic green body; placing the ceramic green body into a sealed container containing water vapor to cause the ceramic green body to soak up the water vapor to obtain an aqueous ceramic green body; removing the aqueous ceramic green body from the sealed container, and connecting a power supply to the aqueous ceramic green body; applying a voltage to the aqueous ceramic green body; and increasing the voltage to a predetermined voltage value to cause a surface discharge or an internal discharge to occur on the aqueous ceramic green body, and stopping the power supply after a predetermined time, thereby obtaining a ceramic. A ceramic formed by the method is also disclosed.
SOLID-STATE BATTERY CATHODES AND METHODS THEREOF
The present disclosure describes a lithium solid state battery, including a cathode that includes an active material such as lithium, and an additive having a lower melting point than the active material. The additive can provide a composite cathode where a cathode-electrolyte interphase has high electronic and ionic conductivity, good mechanical deformability, and high oxidation potential.
SUBSTRATE SUPPORT STRUCTURES AND METHODS OF MAKING SUBSTRATE SUPPORT STRUCTURES
A substrate support structure includes a substrate support structure body formed from a ceramic composite and having a first surface, a second surface spaced apart from the first surface, and a periphery spanning the first surface and the second surface of the substrate support structure body. The first surface, the second surface, and the periphery of the substrate support structure body are defined by the ceramic composite. The ceramic composite includes two or more of a (a) an aluminum nitride (AlN) constituent, (b) an aluminum oxynitride (Al.sub.2.81O.sub.3.56N.sub.0.44, AlON) constituent, (c) an alpha-alumina (α-Al.sub.2O.sub.3) constituent, (d) a yttrium alumina garnet (Y.sub.3Al.sub.5O.sub.12, YAG) constituent, (e) a yttrium alumina monoclinic (Y.sub.4Al.sub.2O.sub.9, YAM) constituent, (f) a yttrium alumina perovskite (YAlO.sub.3, YAP) constituent, and (g) a yttrium oxide (Y.sub.2O.sub.3) constituent. Semiconductor processing systems and methods of making substrate support structures are also described.
High entropy nitride ceramics and methods of synthesizing the same
Provided are novel high entropy nitrides (HENs) exhibiting excellent physical and chemical properties. Also provided are systems and methods to synthesize bulk HENs by reaction flash sintering. Commercial metal nitride powders can be consolidated into near fully dense single-phase bulk ceramic with a proprietary flash sintering apparatus. A constant DC electrical field of ˜80 V/cm and pressure of ˜15 MPa at room temperature can trigger reaction flash sintering without pre-heating, and the entire process can finish in ˜250 seconds to ˜400 seconds.
