HIGHLY DENSE RED MUD SHIELDS FOR X-RAY AND GAMMA-RAY ATTENUATION

A novel eco-friendly method has been developed for the fabrication of high dense (3.3-5.2 g/cc) red mud based material blocks for shielding high energy X- and -rays. The red mud based material blocks with various densities were fabricated by hot compacting partially melted red mud, red mud:Bi.sub.2O.sub.3, red mud:Ba(OH).sub.2 and red mud:Bi.sub.2O.sub.3:Ba(OH).sub.2 samples at 1150 C., 1000 C., 1050 C. and 1000 C., respectively. This material can be used to build radiation shielding structures in medical diagnosis, radiotherapy, industrial radiography, particle accelerators, food sterilization plants, nuclear power plants, and radioactive material storage rooms, without further structural support unlike lead (concrete walls). It is economically viable and will suppress the accumulation of hazardous red mud and associated environmental pollutions.

CERAMIC COMPOSITIONS

A dried or at least partially dried ceramic feedstock, a method of preparing a dried or at least partially dried ceramic feedstock having a residual solvent content of up to about 15 wt. %, ceramic formulations comprising one or more ceramic precursors, temperature sensitive gelling agent, solvent, and having a viscosity suitable for low pressure injection molding, methods for preparing said ceramic formulations, a method of forming a ceramic article from said ceramic formulations, and a ceramic article obtainable therefrom.

KAOLIN-BASED HEMOSTATIC GAUZE AND PREPARATION METHOD THEREOF

A kaolin-based hemostatic gauze comprises: a medical non-woven fabric as a carrier; and a kaolin-containing composite hemostatic material loaded on the medical non-woven fabric, wherein kaolin serves as a carrier in the kaolin-containing composite hemostatic material, the kaolin is doped with Ce and ?-Fe.sub.2O.sub.3 is loaded on the Kaolin. A method for preparing the kaolin-based hemostatic gauze, includes: S1: preparing the kaolin-containing composite hemostatic material; S2: preparing the kaolin-containing composite hemostatic material into a suspension; S3: impregnating the medical non-woven fabric with the suspension thoroughly stirred, wherein upper and lower sides of the medical non-woven fabric each are impregnated once; and S4: pressing and oven-drying an impregnated medical non-woven fabric to obtain the kaolin-based hemostatic gauze. In the method, the medical non-woven fabric is combined with the powdery hemostatic material Ce-?-Fe.sub.2O.sub.3/Kaol through impregnation to prepare the medical hemostatic gauze product with excellent hemostatic performance, prominent biocompatibility, high safety, and antibacterial activity.

FLY ASH PROCESSING AND MANUFACTURE OF ARTICLES INCORPORATING FLY ASH COMPOSITIONS

A fly ash composition including fly ash and a plasticizing agent and being in a powder form is disclosed. The plasticizing agent is capable of binding the fly ash particles in the fly ash composition together on pressing of the fly ash composition. Processes of forming shaped articles containing fly ash may utilize the fly ash composition and/or mixtures containing fly ash and have low water content and may exhibit sufficient green strength to be handled by industrial equipment.
