In some embodiments, a ceramic armor product, includes: a ceramic powder, wherein the ceramic powder is titanium diboride (TiB2); an at least one metal-based additive, wherein the at least one metal based additive comprises elements ranging from atomic numbers 21 through 30, 39 through 51, and 57 through 77; and a density of 4.3-4.7 g/cc, wherein the ceramic armor product is substantially lacking grain orientation.
Continuous Additive Manufacturing Method for Making Ceramic Articles, and Ceramic Articles
The present disclosure provides a method of making a ceramic article. The method includes (a) obtaining a photopolymerizable slurry or sol including a plurality of ceramic particles distributed in the photopolymerizable slurry or sol and (b) selectively polymerizing the photopolymerizable slurry or sol using actinic radiation and continuous movement of a build substrate through the photopolymerizable slurry or sol to form a gelled article. The method also includes (c) extracting solvent from the gelled article to form an aerogel article or a xerogel article; (d) heat treating the aerogel article or the xerogel article to form a porous ceramic article; and (e) sintering the porous ceramic article to form a sintered ceramic article. The sintered ceramic article exhibits a particular density. Further, additive manufactured ceramic articles are provided that exhibit a particular density, opacity, or both. Preferably, all cross-sectional portions of an interior of the ceramic article having selected dimensions are free of a frequency analysis signal maxima larger than a background signal.
CUBIC BORON NITRIDE SINTERED BODY AND COATED CUBIC BORON NITRIDE SINTERED BODY

CUBIC BORON NITRIDE SINTERED BODY AND COATED CUBIC BORON NITRIDE SINTERED BODY
A cubic boron nitride sintered body including cubic boron nitride and a binder phase, wherein a content of the cubic boron nitride is 40 volume % or more and 80 volume % or less; a content of the binder phase is 20 volume % or more and 60 volume % or less; an average particle size of the cubic boron nitride is 0.5 μm or more and 4.0 μm or less; the binder phase contains TiC and TiB.sub.2 and contains substantially no AlN and/or Al.sub.2O.sub.3; a (101) plane of TiB.sub.2 in the binder phase shows a maximum peak position (2θ) in X-ray diffraction of 44.2° or more; and a (200) plane of TiC in the binder phase shows a maximum peak position (2θ) in X-ray diffraction of less than 42.1°.
POLYCRYSTALLINE CUBIC BORON NITRIDE MATERIAL
This disclosure relates to a high cBN content polycrystalline cubic boron nitride, PCBN, material. The binder matrix material comprises 2 to 15 wt. % titanium diboride (TiB2).
Method of preparing and applying a slurry mixture to a bridge wire initiator
Embodiments include a method of forming an initiator. The method includes placing an energetic powder in a container. A solvent is added to the container and the solvent and energetic powder are mixed to form a slurry mixture. The slurry mixture is filtered. The filtered slurry mixture is placed in a transfer tube. The slurry mixture is applied to a bridge wire. The slurry mixture applied to the bridge wire is then dried.
METHOD OF FABRICATING A FIBER PREFORM FILLED WITH REFRACTORY CERAMIC PARTICLES
A method of fabricating a fiber preform filled with refractory ceramic particles, includes placing a fiber texture including refractory ceramic fibers in a mold cavity; injecting a slip including a powder of refractory ceramic particles present in a liquid medium, the slip being injected into the pores of the fiber texture present in the mold cavity, injection being performed through at least a first face or a first edge of the fiber texture; and draining the liquid medium of the slip that has penetrated into the fiber texture through the porous material part, the draining being performed at least through a second face or a second edge of the fiber texture different from the first face or the first edge, the porous material part also serving to retain the refractory particle powder in the pores of the fiber texture to obtain a fiber preform filled with refractory particles.
