NUCLEAR REACTOR FUEL ROD AND FUEL ASSEMBLY HAVING BUNDLED SAME
A nuclear reactor fuel rod is a fuel rod for a light-water reactor. The nuclear reactor fuel rod includes a fuel cladding tube and an end plug, both of which are formed of a silicon carbide material. A bonding portion between the fuel cladding tube and the end plug is formed by brazing with a predetermined metal bonding material interposed, and/or by diffusion bonding. The predetermined metal bonding material has a solidus temperature of 1200° C. or higher. An outer surface of the bonding portion, and a portion of an outer surface of the fuel cladding tube and the end plug, which is adjacent to the outer surface of the bonding portion are covered by bonding-portion coating formed of a predetermined coating metal. The predetermined metal bonding material and the predetermined coating metal have an average linear expansion coefficient which is less than 10 ppm/K.
High temperature electrochemical cell structures, and methods for making
An electrochemical cell is described, including an anodic chamber and a cathodic chamber separated by an electrolyte separator tube, all contained within a cell case. The cell also includes an electrically insulating ceramic collar positioned at an opening of the cathodic chamber, and defining an aperture in communication with the opening; along with a cathode current collector assembly; and at least one metallic ring that has a coefficient of thermal expansion (CTE) in the range of about 3 to about 7.5 ppm/° C., contacting at least a portion of a metallic component within the cell, and an adjacent ceramic component. An active braze alloy composition attaches and hermetically seals the ring to the metallic component and the collar. Sodium metal halide batteries that contain this type of cell are also described, along with methods for sealing structures within the cell.

Method of fabricating a turbine or compressor guide vane sector made of composite material for a turbine engine, and a turbine or a compressor incorporating such guide vane sectors
Single-airfoil vanes each having an inner platform, an outer platform, and an airfoil are obtained by three-dimensionally weaving a fiber blank in a single piece, by shaping the fiber blank to obtain a single-piece fiber preform, and by densifying the preform with a matrix to obtain a vane of composite material forming a single piece with inner and outer platforms incorporated therein. A plurality of vanes is assembled together at an intermediate stage of densification to form a multi-airfoil composite material guide vane sector for a turbine nozzle or a compressor diffuser and the assembled-together vanes are bonded together.
