Phosphorus-containing solid catalysts and reactions catalyzed thereby, including synthesis of p-xylene
Methods and phosphorus-containing solid catalysts for catalyzing dehydration of cyclic ethers (e.g., furans, such as 2,5-dimethylfuran) and alcohols (e.g., ethanol and isopropanol). The alcohols and cyclic ethers may be derived from biomass. One example includes a tandem Diels-Alder cycloaddition and dehydration of biomass-derived 2,5-dimethyl-furan and ethylene to renewable p-xylene. The phosphorus-containing solid catalysts are also active and selective for dehydration of alcohols to alkenes.
PROCESS FOR PRODUCING ALKENES FROM OXYGENATES BY USING SUPPORTED PARTIALLY NEUTRALISED HETEROPOLYACID CATALYSTS
A process for the vapour phase chemical dehydration of ethanol in a reactor in the presence of a supported hetero-polyacid catalyst, said process comprising a step of contacting the ethanol with the heteropolyacid catalyst, wherein the heteropoly acid catalyst comprises a partially neutralised silicotungstic acid salt, wherein the partially neutralised silicotungstic acid salt has from 30% to 70% of the hydrogen atoms replaced with cations selected from the group consisting of alkali metal cations, alkaline earth metal cations, transition metal cations, ammonium cations, and mixtures thereof; but with the proviso that the alkali metal cation is not lithium; and wherein, after attaining steady-state performance of the catalyst, said process is operated continuously with the same supported heteropolyacid catalyst for at least 150 hours, without any regeneration of the catalyst.
OXYGEN TRANSFER AGENTS FOR THE OXIDATIVE DEHYDROGENATION OF HYDROCARBONS AND SYSTEMS AND PROCESSES USING THE SAME
A oxygen transfer agent useful for the oxidative dehydrogenation of saturated hydrocarbons includes at least one mixed oxide derived from manganese or compounds thereof, as well as a promoter, such as tungsten and/or phosphorus. The oxygen transfer agent may also include an alkali metal or compounds thereof, boron or compounds thereof, an oxide of an alkaline earth metal, and an oxide containing one or more of one or more of manganese, lithium, boron, and magnesium. A reactor is at least partially filled with the oxygen transfer agent in the form of a fixed or circulating bed and provides an unsaturated hydrocarbon product, such as ethylene and/or propylene. The oxygen transfer agent may be regenerated using oxygen.
Use of catalyst prepared with a subgroup VI element for the production of organic chemicals and fuels from lignin
A process for the production of organic chemicals and fuels from lignin in the presence of a molybdenum or tungsten based catalyst, comprising mixing the lignin with the catalyst and a solvent in a sealed reactor, introducing an inert gas or hydrogen to the reactor to replace oxygen therein, and heating the sealed reactor to perform a depolymerization reaction at a reaction temperature of above 200° C. to obtain liquid products, which include aromatic compounds, esters, alcohols, monophenols and benzyl alcohols.
Premixer, radially fixed bed reactor, reaction system for oxidative dehydrogenation
The present disclosure provides a premixer for at least two gases, comprising: a tubular body having a closed end and an opposite, open end; a first flow passage for receiving a first gas, the first flow passage axially extending through the closed end into the tubular body in a sealable manner; a conical tube arranged in the tubular body, wherein a small end of the conical tube communicates with the first flow passage, and a large end of the conical tube extends toward the open end with an edge thereof being fixed to an inner wall of the tubular body, thereby defining a sealed distribution chamber between the tubular body and the conical tube; and a second flow passage arranged on a side portion of the tubular body for receiving a second gas, wherein the second flow passage communicates with the distribution chamber, so that the second gas can be introduced into said conical tube via the distribution chamber in a substantially radial manner. The present disclosure further relates to a radially fixed bed reactor comprising the premixer, a reaction system of oxidative dehydrogenation of butene comprising the racially fixed bed reactor, and a corresponding process.
Forming dienes from cyclic ethers and diols, including tetrahydrofuran and 2-methyl-1,4-butanediol
Forming a diene includes contacting a reactant including at least one of a cyclic ether and a diol with a heterogeneous acid catalyst to yield a reaction mixture including a diene. The heterogeneous acid catalyst includes at least one of a Lewis acid catalyst, a supported Lewis-acid catalyst, a Brnsted acid catalyst, a solid acid catalyst, a supported phosphoric acid catalyst, and a sulfonated catalyst. The dehydration of cyclic ethers and diols with high selectivity to yield dienes completes pathways for the production of dienes, such as isoprene and butadiene, from biomass in high yields, thereby promoting economical production of dienes from renewable resources.
