PROCESS FOR METHANOL PRODUCTION FROM INERT-RICH SYNTHESIS GAS
20230044425 · 2023-02-09 ·

Systems and methods for producing methanol are disclosed. A synthesis gas stream is split to form a first synthesis gas stream and a second synthesis gas stream. The first synthesis gas stream is fed into a primary methanol synthesis unit. The second synthesis gas stream is fed into a secondary methanol synthesis unit for producing methanol. The first effluent stream from the primary methanol synthesis unit and/or the second effluent stream from the secondary methanol synthesis unit are further separated to produce methanol product stream and one or more recycle streams comprising hydrogen, carbon monoxide, carbon dioxide and an inert gas. The one or more recycle streams are recycled to the primary methanol synthesis unit.

METHODS OF PRODUCING DIMETHYL CARBONATE

Disclosed is a high yield, high selectivity and high conversion method to produce Dimethyl Carbonate (DMC) from carbon dioxide (CO.sub.2) and methanol (MeOH) using optimized concentration of ethylene oxide as water scavenger. The method provides an alternative and optimized solution towards the problem of formation of water in DMC synthesis by reporting optimal feed ratio and scavenger to MeOH feed ratio. The disclosure also discloses an optimal pressure condition that could have significant impact on economy of compression of the feed to the DMC reactor.

A membrane reactor includes a catalyst layer, a separation membrane, and a buffer layer. The catalyst layer contains a catalyst for promoting a conversion reaction from a feed gas containing hydrogen and carbon oxide to a liquid fuel. The separation membrane is permeable to water vapor which is a byproduct of the conversion reaction. The buffer layer is disposed between the separation membrane and the catalyst layer, and permeable to the water vapor toward the separation membrane.
