A process produces a mono vinyl ether, R—O—CH═CH.sub.2. R represents an organic group with at least three carbon atoms. The process involves reacting a mono hydroxy compound. R—OH, with acetylene in presence of a catalyst to get a product mixture containing the mono vinyl ether, unconverted mono hydroxy compound, and the catalyst. To the product mixture, an ester is added that contains at least one ester group, X—O.sub.2C—. X is a hydrocarbon group containing less carbon atoms than R. The remaining mono hydroxy compound R—OH is reacted with the ester in the presence of the catalyst to get a transesterification product containing at least one ester group, R—O.sub.2C—, and an alcohol, X—OH. The mono vinyl ether is isolated from the product mixture obtained after the ester addition, optionally followed by purification of the mono vinyl ether by distillation.

The present application provides systems and methods for producing isononanol and gasoline and diesel blending components. In at least one embodiment of the present systems and methods, a hydrocarbon feed is cracked in a steam cracker to form a first ethylene stream, a first propylene stream, and a C4 stream comprising isobutene and butadiene. The C4 stream is reacted with a methanol stream in a methyl tertiary butyl ether (MTBE) unit to form MTBE and a butadiene-rich C4 stream. The butadiene-rich C4 stream is selectively hydrogenated in a butadiene unit to form a butene-rich C4 stream. The butene-rich C4 stream undergoes a series of reactions in an isononanol unit to produce isononanol and an olefin-rich stream. The olefin-rich stream is then separate, in a separation unit, a C8, C12, and C16 fuel oil streams.

A method for producing isobutyl vinyl ether using isobutyl alcohol as a raw material alcohol, the method including reacting the isobutyl alcohol with acetylene to obtain a mixture containing unreacted isobutyl alcohol and isobutyl vinyl ether, reacting the unreacted isobutyl alcohol and the isobutyl vinyl ether in the mixture in a presence of an acid catalyst to be converted into acetaldehyde diisobutyl acetal, and removing the acetaldehyde diisobutyl acetal by distillation.
